Experiments with Makeup

I have in the past experimented in a big way with makeup (though unfortunately I can’t do this any longer). It started in the early days of punk / new wave, and mainly for when I went out clubbing. Having said that, for about 3 years I used makeup every day. It was a glamorous period.

Once I’d got the confidence to do so, I graduated from a bit of eyeliner around the eyes to something more extravagant. I was inspired (as indeed were a lot of the punks & latterly goths) by Chinese Opera… Continue

Videos and comment threads, my Youtubes

Made a new wig video recently. Still maintaining my Youtube channel, obsessing over 'insight' and grooming my playlists. Some playlists are so old that some of the videos are gone, deleted or user account closed. I get a decent number of views. I hope my videos and essays help people with the shock of being diagnosed with alopecia, or the dread of realizing that it IS going to progress to Totalis or Universalis from Areata. I want to reach both those women (and men) who choose to go natural…

The new one to alopecia

So I've finally found some place to talk to people with alopecia and hopefully be understood - Alopecia World:).

Living in a small country with alopecia is hard, not only because people are unaware of this disease but also because even doctors for a long period of time couldn't diagnose me. A lot of websites I found in Lithuania were about how to hide alopecia, how hard it was to have it and how terrible everything is if you have it. Unfortunately I had a different perspective on it and… Continue

Here it goes

So i have not written anything on here in terms of Blog, but lately I have been feeling more and more alone with my alopecia. I was diagnosed in 2007 with AA, and when my first spot ( which I named OScar) started to go away I thought that was the end of it, but since then I have developed another spot ( Ramon), lost my right eyebrow (gretchen) and my left eyelashes (lola). The last couple of months I have seen a quicker rate of hair loss in the front. I used to have side bangs but had to go to… Continue

My experience with regrowth and acceptance

Hey everyone,

My name is Jennifer and I have had Alopecia Areata since age 11 (smack dab in the middle of fifth grade).

I am 23 now and have recently experienced surprising regrowth of 90 percent of my hair. To give you the full history, I had been shaving the fifty percent regrowth I had developed gradually so that I could wear a suctioned wig by "Fuller Hair". To be completely honest, I continued to shave it even as I noticed improvements because I liked feeling in… Continue

SUCCESS!!

I reached my goal today and went for a walk wit my husband around the block and we did it in broad day light right after dinner, I was hesitant at first due to my social anxiety problem but I grab held of his hand and off we went.
I'm very proud of myself and tomorrow we plan to do the very same thing hopefully soon enough I won't have anxiety attacks and i'll be able to go out on my own .
I've aheived my goal that I set and I am proud of myself

Not again

I'm now dealing with my 6th round of Alopecia Areata in the span of 10 years. However, this time I feel like I've nothing left in me. This shedding of hair comes fast on the heels of my last bout, and I am feeling like maybe this time it's going to all come out. Its rapid pace frightens me.

I don't have the strength to walk around with my shaved head and bald spots again like I did before. I don't have the strength to wear a wig in 80 degree humid weather and sweat like a pig like I… Continue

Biggest challenge for me BEGINS

I have set a goal for tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m eastern standard time to start walking around the block with my husband so this way I dont have to deal with axiety cause most people in my complex are in their homes.

The reson for this goal is because I went from a 110lbs to 145lbs. i've excercised at home but it's doing me no good, perhaps its a sign of God to push me out and work on my anxiety so i'm looking forward to my walk around the block with my hubby tomorrow night .

wish me… Continue

Excited!

Today I went to an Clinique Store to get some Eyebrow Powder. I told the make up artist about my Alopecia (so she could help me find the right product) & she was so sweet about it! She offered me to make an appointment next weekend to have my make up done by her, FOR FREE! I'm super excited :) It's going to very interesting to see her do my eyebrows & tell me what looks good me, I'm very picky when it comes to my make up. However though I can't wait. :)

Crazy times!

Lately I have been so overwhelmed with finals and work that I haven't really taken some time for myself.

Its like, we work so hard to find some things in life that we forget about the little things. I have definitely taken for granted some things lately but, with hard work comes success. Other times, when you work so hard for some things, others just happen to come along, and are given to you. This is an excellent example:…

Finally gonna get the help I need

In group therapy yesterday I promised to make a goal that was to walk my dog and I will keep to it as I have anxiety attacks so even if for 10 minutes I will accomplish it. And I don't give a damn who wants to stare at my hair piece( as my husband likes to all it, he says wig is too harsh)

When session was over I asked if I could also get a one on one counseling to help me over many hurtles in my life and already i've got that in motion so I'm excited to look forward to not only a new me… Continue

"Uncertainty"

As with most females, my hair looking attractive has always been important to me as far back as I can remember. Even as a young girl I didn't mind the discomfort of sleeping with a headful of pink styrofoam hair rollers if it meant I'd have pretty curls to show off at elementry school the next day. I loved my long hair and thought all girls were supposed to have long hair until I saw the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. I was eleven years old and now wanted my hair to be cut like a… Continue

"Aopecia"

I know this place is basically for alopecia, I agree with Rob and others, it takes time and I have to keep going , I have to keep fighting.

I came down with post dramatic stress disorder thanks to the many years of pain, abuse, mentally and physically and the explosion part for me was the Alopecia,i'm 38 years old and I know it's time or help i'm getting older now and want to be set free from all of this, and be able to stop the anxiety that I have had to deal with for 32 years. So Yes I… Continue
