You'll Never Walk Alone - With AlopeciaWorld.com!

Feeling down? I thought I'd post something to help.

First watch this beautiful version of the song from the musical, Carousel, performed on the Tony Awards:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDb7YnRNxug

When you walk through the storm

Keep your chin up high

And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm

Is a golden sky

And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk…

Just so hard to smile

I'm having such a hard time to smile today. I suppose it's one of those days where I tried on every wig I have and felt it just wasn't me. So I had to put my turban back on and it's not what I wanted to do today. Someone told me today, "You're lucky you don't have cancer and you have your health," and I in turn said,"You're lucky you have hair and good health." Sometimes I wonder if people think before they speak.

Yes I am grateful for my health but sure as hell not grateful for not having… Continue

I really need something positive in my life

So I think the vertigo has about run its course, I just get random spins that last like 15 seconds, which I can deal with. The migraines are finally lessening with the meds I take everyday. I have to go on the 5th to have a MRA on my brain with contrast, because my neurologist wants to check the blood vessels in the back of my neck. On top of that, today, May 2nd, marks 4 years since my dad passed away. I have for the past 4 years went to Arlington cemetery on the day he passed and his… Continue

"People like people who like them."

A boss once said this to me, and I found it to be true quite often. Who is going to know you appreciate him/her if you say nothing and just wait like a bump on the log or a hopeful Cinderella behind a door? Be your own champion or magic godmother and GET OUT THERE! Make the first move and talk to someone in a friendly, not morbid, way. Everyone likes attention...to himself/herself...and will most likely come back for more. If someone at home is griping or sulking about your concerns with… Continue

Let's do something this summer

So here I go..... never one to think that I would be the one to start something like this. We all know the shame, embarrassment, and the hiding we do with regards to having alopecia. My grand beautiful idea and I hope to get many of a interest. I was going thru the events and festivals here in Edmonton and having gone to afew of them myself over the years.

July 8 - 17 is the Street Performers Festival located at Sir Winston Churchill Square in downtown Edomonton.

I would love to have… Continue

Truly not alone

It's incredible how many beautiful women just like me are on here! I'm always resisting participating in Alopecia themed things but this is really helping me. You don't realize how isolating this condition can be. Everyone struggles with confidence and self-esteem but with a visible condition like Alopecia it can be amplified and cause a big time distorted self image. In short I like understanding that I'm not the only "freak" and I mean that in the kindest way possible and am only speaking for… Continue

So excited I had to share

Today my husband is finally putting up my face with my brother in-law, this means I can finally go out in my yard without anyone staring at me and wondering whats on my head!!!

this way I can start slowly to get out of the house wearing my wig or turban!

may i also start my therapy which is suppose to help me deal with stress, anxiety, self-esteem etc, I am really hoping all this works out for me, because I am tired of being sad, alone and feeling like there is no hope for me at… Continue

How to cope? I just can't find a way :(

I am 15 and a sophomore in high school. I have alopecia areata and the past couple of months more and more of my hair has been coming out. Only my closest friends know about my hair, and i am very scared that in the coming months all of my hair may come out. What will people say? What will they think? Will my friends stay by my side? Will people talk bad about me? All of these things and more are passing through my head and it scared me to death. I used to have such thick and beautiful hair,… Continue

People who give advice and won't let it go annoy me

Why is it when others give advice about so-called treatments ie special diet/acupuncture/holistic/chinese herbs etc and I don't immediately say hey that's a great idea I'll try that today, they get that look or tone that says you poor closed minded woman you aren't open to any help so it's your own fault if your hair doesn't grow back! I've had this conversation so many times it's getting old. These days I just nod politely and move on. However, some people don't know when to back off. Even… Continue

Losing my...everything! Bah!

So over the past year I've had a lot and ups and downs with my AA. To start I guess I should tell you I've had AA since i was 10, and 15 years later here I am! All through out middle school and high school I just had a really weird hairline in the front while the rest of my head was covered in thick brown hair. Towards the end of high school my eyebrows fell out and my hairline had receded 2+ inches from where is normally is. Over the past 9 yrs I have done topical injections, systemic… Continue

Vertigo and missing this website!

So most of you know I went to get my thyroid tested (came back negative) but on March 31st while at work I spun in my chair to get up and ended up spinning, standing up, and going down to the floor. In the ER that night I was diagnosed with a lovely case of Vertigo. For those of you that don't know what it is, it is explains by wiki:

"is a type of dizziness, where there is a feeling of motion when one is stationary. The symptoms are due to a dysfunction of the vestibular system in… Continue
