So I am heading to a music festival in BC this weekend, which is very exciting! It's a very open and accepting environment, people wear crazy costumes, go naked or whatever...
I had mentioned long ago that I would go bald the whole weekend because it would be easier and people would probably not blink an eye at a bald chick there. My friends are not going to let me take my wig (except my bright pink one!)
Which is all good and well, except that I have a lot of regrowth on…

So I was diagnosed with Alopecia Aerata this month. My hair is falling out pretty fast. Every time I shower, I get 1/2 a weeks hair in the drain and on the comb. It's falling out in plugs and clumps. I'm a nurse and I wear my hair in a short pony all the time. I'm having a hard time hiding the bald spots. I'm low maintenance and I've never "dressed" my head before, but now I need some quick solutions! Can you please lead the way....thank you!
p.s. I love looking at all your pictures! It…

Monday, August 10th I go before Medicare's Administrative Law Judge, the hearing I requested was for a cranial prosthesis/wig coverage. The initial request for a wig/cranial prosthesis from my Dermatologist in January was denied.
Medicare, (shame on them & their neanderthal attitudes regarding cranial prosthesis) I am so frustrated, with them, according to one denial letter, in order for a wig to be covered it must,
stand up to repeated use,
mainly be used to serve a medical…

Baby fuzz. Say the words and hearts start melting. See that soft, fine hair on an infant’s head and your hand automatically reaches out to touch, pat, or pet. Oohs and ahhs and a drawn-out “aw” spontaneously slip from your mouth.
Now imagine that same soft, fine hair on the balding head of a grown woman. On me.
In my world, talks of baby fuzz mean I have a spot of new hair growth. My baby fuzz is soft, but not cute. Certainly not ooh-and-ahh inspiring or aw-worthy. More…

I refer to it as "major" because I don't know who any of the people mentioned in the article are (other than Richard Jenkins.) It appears though it will be a film for regular theatrical release.

I do wonder though what "Alopecia Universales" as it is referred to is. It sounds like the name of a company that sells alopecia related products not just here on Earth but at outposts throughout the galaxy.

So I've been having a difficult time with my Alopecia as of late. Started with one patch in Oct 08 and now it was 3.. the first of the ones i noticed has a lot of regrowth, but the hair seems to be falling out from all over.. more of a difussed state.. is this normal?? I know i may lose all my hair but what of the regrowth in one area... is that just false hope? also, does anyone ever get painful areas on their scalps? not just tingling but an area when you press down it feels…

Well, so in the past 3 months, I've discovered that wearing a wig is not too traumatic an experience. I screwed up the courage to start wearing the first one I've bought (the bob cut one) to work at the end of April, and I was just absolutely bowled over by all the compliments and comments everyone had! I think I had the biggest ego of my life that day! (Which honestly, I very much enjoyed as I have not had an overabundance of self-esteem in the last many years).
However, I had a…

Hi, My name's JOSH.
I just want to start by saying this website truly is wonderful. I don't know why I never joined Alopeciaworld.com before. It's like Facebook or Myspace for bald people! (only I think this is a little cooler) I've been a member for less than 24 hours and many of you (whom I have never met) have welcomed me, and I can't tell you how much that means. The close-knit community that alopeciaworld seems to promote is very cool and once again I'd like to state how much…

Every day, no matter how many years go by....it's the Cliche (over used expression) which becomes nonsensical. I shrug it off in revolt these days....."hmmmmmm"
My own quietness, observation of ignorance and awareness, is to the nth degree. When all the while, deep within the psyche of their intellectual perception, they're so busy judging our external facade.
After all...if it's what's on the inside that counts......then why are they…

As of Wednesday last week I have ditched the wig and am wearing my bald head with pride. So far the response has been great. All was revealled at work fo the first time on Monday and everyone couldn't believe it but then said how much better and more confident I look!
Walking in to my local shop, meeting my friends at the pub, playing hockey, anythng - I'm not bothered about people seeing the real me - Best decision I ever made!

Hey all: It occured to me that a famous bear, second only to Smokey T. Bear, may have been an Alopecian. His name was Fuzzy Wuzzy. Does anyone know what he's doing these days?

I recently started working again as a Night Auditor for a swanky boutique hotel in downtown Nashville, and based on past experience when I went to my interview I brought my "alopecia essentials" kit: a letter from my dermatologist explaining my need to wear wigs, hats, and scarves; a printed copy of the Americans with Disabilities Act; and a business card with my lawyer's name and phone number, and my godmother's name and phone number (she works for the EEOC.) My boss was very pleasant during…

I had AA for 7 years, then I progressed to AT - no scalp hair, but everything else still there. Then, it quickly went to AU. In the past few months, I've started growing hair again, but ONLY on my face. I have eyebrow patches, lashes in the center of my upper eyelids, nose hair, and peach fuzz in places on my cheeks and chin. But, there's not a single, tiny hair anywhere else on my scalp or body.
So, I think that there needs to be a name for when you have hair only from your eyebrows…

Hello, I had my first hair cut sense finding my first patch in feb this year.
It was a spur of the moment decision. My patches are growing back and I have new re-growth all over, so it was really good to get it tided up. I was very nervous at first as you can still see the patches (even though there is re-growth) and was nervous all thru the hair cut, but Im very happy i did it :0)
