Will my bald spots still show if i shave my head completely and go over it with a razor?

I'm Irish and pretty pale and I'm about to shave my head but i am curious to know if my spots will still show anyway. If so then what's the point? Aren't most of us trying to conceal it?
Need answers please.

Shedding hair sucks!

Anyone else tired of seeing hair collect all over your floor, bed, hairbrush? My hair has gotten to my lower back, but I still have large patches over the entire back and sides, with some smaller patches on top. So, of course, my long hair sheds and it becomes very obvious that there's hair everywhere. The worst is when cooking! I'm always scared someone will find a hair in their food and be disgusted.

Makes me want to shave it all off -- a thought that's been around for a few months.…

Done...bald...transitioned...spot-less...liberated!

I will forever remember Saturday, March 5, 2011, the day I buzzed off what appeared to look like a light, scattered bird's nest on my head. It was amazing. I returned to my hometown, NYC, to my hairdresser of 19 years, Skipper Edwards. I initially went to Skipper because he was my sister's hairdresser; he was good with hair of women of color. Being bi-racial my hair was kinky, although it could be blown out. He proceeded, throughout the years to cut, style my hair in an appropriate way to hide… Continue

Will I look like a bald man?

Without hair, will I look masculine? I have androgenic alopecia, or female pattern baldness. So, I still have a decent amount of hair all over my head. I have retained a normal hairline. However my hair is thinning on the top, the upper sides, and the top back. I have about twice as much hair on the back ring of my head as on the top.…

'Why do you shave your head?'

I started to post this as a response to the question “Why do you shave your head?,” which Pam Fitros asked this Alopecia World group. I posted this blog instead because I wanted to share my answer with the entire community.

Back in 2010 I saw an advertisement for “It’s All Good Hair,” a “natural hair” workshop and celebration sponsored by the Shrine…

Vegetarian new to Alopecia World (and the world of alopecia)

Hi,

I'm Amy, and I'm new to Alopecia World (and the World of Alopecia). I started losing hair about a month and a half ago, got tested for everything ever, and was told that either it's a (really unlikely) reaction to my immunosuppressant (which I was on for eczema), or just plain ol' alopecia. So about two weeks ago my body upped the ante to include my eyebrows (ugh), lip (good news!), and legs (better news!). It's freaky, and it doesn't seem quite real yet (even as I sit at work wearing… Continue

I finally did it - I shaved my head!

Last night I caught sight of myself in the mirror with my real hair pulled back in a pony tail with my many bald spots showing through. And I thought, that's it - it's time, I look hideous. I discussed it with my hubby who played devil's advocate and stressed to me that there was no turning back once I did it so to make sure I was sure. As he put it, I can still throw on a hat and go to the store (with my real hair) or around the house.....but you can't hide bald!

So we started off… Continue

Well I’ve done it!!!!!!!

Well I’ve done it!!!!!!!

Having experienced the loss of lots of my body hair I was feeling very much the same as I did when my head hair was falling out. As such, I was tempted to use the same course of action that I had used when the hair on my head was coming out – to remove what was let so that I no longer had to see it falling out.

Well yesterday after about 60% of my body hair had gone (I was really hairy) I went to see a friend of mine who has a business removing… Continue

My Saturday

Saturday morning and I am off to London to see the Rugby, England v Italy in the Six Nations competition. I am taking clients, one of which is an Italian so it should be a fun day out.

I have chosen to go on the train as the weather has been so bad in places yet as I sit on the train as a paying guest of Virgin Rail the view out the window is of a glorious winter wonderland. The sun is shining and the snow looks so inviting. The reality though is that it has been such a problem to so… Continue

How has being bald affected you???????????????

How has being bald affected you? That is if it has affected you. Mind you I do think it must have even if it is only the fact that you notice how cold it is much more now than when you had hair.

Many of the websites for Alopecia document how many people are stressed about having Alopecia and that they desperately worry about their hair growing back. I must admit that when I first had alopecia I was concerned about the situation but once I shaved my head I stopped worrying and found… Continue

Free at Last!

I shaved my head because I was tired of looking at one hair falling out at a tim. I was tired of assessing how big the pateches were or were not getting. I was tired of worrying about if my bald spots were showing. Look out, World! I have a bald spot showing! It's called my scalp. LOL. It took longer than I thought (a friend and my husband both helped) and my hair held on like a pit bull. But we won at last. I feel so much better. I have a wig I… Continue

Alopecia Book Review

I've never read any alopecia specific books before, that is until I got my copy of "Metamorphosis" by Julia Crittendon. Of course my portion of the book was excellent LOL But seriously, it was one of those things I could have writen a hundred times over and never been completely satisfied with. It was wonderful to hear about everyone's battle and recovery, if you will, over alopecia. It is a very inspiring and motivational book and I encourage anyone with alopecia to give it a… Continue

Upset by Family's Reactions

I have been toying with the idea of shaving my head and getting this hair loss crap out of my life for quite some time now. I've always confided in my family, so naturally I told them that I am considering shaving my head. I wasn't expecting them to jump for joy, but I really wasn't expecting the reactions I got from them either.

My mom cried. At first she was crying because I lost a large clump of hair in the shower. Then I told her that I want to shave my head and she cried even… Continue

Self Image

The strange thing about being bald is that it brings to your attention the whole aspect of self image. Before having Alopecia self image was not something that I thought of very much, I was how I was. Having lost my hair I am in a position of having had a before image and a new image. As such it has drawn my attention to the way I look now and to how I feel about myself.

I look at other people more now with a thought of what they are like in relationship to their self image and how… Continue
