Round 2

Thank goodness for this website. I have met one other person who suffers from alopecia in my area, and she has been lucky enough to regrow almost all of her hair. She gave me a lot of hope. In the last few weeks I have continuously found new spots on my head of fresh bald patches. It has been absolutely devastating because I have tried to be so patient in the last year and a half. I know it could be so much worse, but it is so hard coping with holding out hope for something that does not pan…

How to be me and have alopecia

I haven’t written anything alopecia wise in a long time and I’m sorry for that.  It’s not that I have nothing to say on the matter but so much else is more important.  And lately I find that I don’t want to be as open about my story as I was in the past.  For it seemed opening myself up has also allowed others in.  Which for the most part has been therapeutic and healing; not only for myself but for others.   But along with the good will always come the bad.  The naysayers that wish to bring…

Resignation

I've always hated my head.

It is a giant pumpkin head.  Hats don't fit.  My football helmet had to be specially ordered.  I learned how to sense when topics were getting close to something about heads or head size and developed the coping mechanism of how to make jokes about myself quickly before anyone else could.

In 1988 I started cutting my own hair - learning styles that seemed melon-head friendly.  Ultimately tight sides and a flat or spikey top…

Select spiritual spaces and "coming out bald"?

Hi everyone, I wanted to share for those who are kinda interested in not wearing wigs, or possibly looking for 'safe spaces to try,' I've had  a good experience while doing/taking yoga more seriously. My yoga studio has a blend of locals and young professionals who in one way or another have tattoos, piercings, natural hair (culturally-specific reference), crazy color dyed hair, or some other thing that makes me read these strangers as "safely decent people" …I wrote more about that …

So a little follow up to my progress

I have seen progress in my hair growth. To be honest, I wanted quicker results but this is alright. Since I've been taking my probiotic vitamins I listed in my previous discussion, my fuzzy hair has been getting longer. I now have blond eyebrows, more and more eye lashes, nose hairs (I don't miss those..lol I forgot how they tickle my nose), armpit hair, and hair down there. Let me remind you, it's been years since I've had hair anywhere on my body. I've tried to take pictures, but I don't…

Encounters with strangers … sometimes they're good =)

"Bald by chance or choice?"

An older white woman asked me this at Kinko's. She was a cancer survivor and told me she's always curious to ask other bald women their stories. She had a short gray/white pixie cut since her hair had grown back. I responded to her question by saying "well, a mix of both …hit a hair loss limit and decided to shave the rest." She gave me quite the compliment. We never exchanged names, we continued with our copies, and offered each other "a nice day." Aside…

Applying for the National Guard

Hi everyone,

Wanted to find out if by any chance anyone has an idea about the National Guard and does alopecia disqualify from joining?

TX in advance for your replies.

My marriage story

If you read my previous post, you would know I was born and raised in a Islamic country with mandatory scarf from government, so I used to be pretty natural like other girls with my wig and scarf on it, tattoo brows and fake lashes. As I told, heavy make up for girls in very common and most of the girls and women in the street, shops, university and everywhere have very heavy make up so I was very natural.

When I was 19, very young! I met a guy at university and we talked together,…

Freedom wigs

Has anyone in the United States bought a Freedom Wig from one of the dealers here? I'm really considering a custom wig and am thinking of contacting them.

Thank you

I am a 27 year old woman who has had AU since 13 years of age. At the moment I have no complaints because I am living a normal life with my loving husband and my two month old baby boy. This was not the case all my life.

To begin my story I start by saying in Trinidad and Tobago there isn't an awareness of this condition known as Alopecia, even among the doctors.

When my hair fell out both my mother and I were scared and didn't know what to do. Within a year we visited…

Wishing the mirror would lie

Tough week. I see it, I decide to take it in my stride, I figure the less I stress about it the less will disappear. Can't quite manage to convince myself. Wish I was as brave as alot on here. One day, but not today. Today is a day for tears .

My life

Hello,

I am 27 Iranian girl, beautiful but bald.

In Iran, wearing hejab(scarf) is mandatory from government for women because of religious issues and religious government so I had the chance to hide my scalp easily like all other women in my country.

I was really busy with school and uni most of my life. 7 years ago I decided to start wearing wig, false lashes and tattooed my brows so I looked…

White "baby hair" type fuzz

Hi all,

Has anyone else experienced white very fine baby hair growing where previously bald? and if so does it thicken up, or change colour etc? and more importantly mean the hair is starting to regrow.

Any experience gratefully received :)

(I am not letting this latest development excite me at all by the way.)

I have the diagnosis, what do I do?

Hi, my name is Crissy. In August 2013 I noticed a patch missing in my hair, went straight to the doctor, did all the medical tests and diagnosed my with Alopecia A. and then sent me on my way not able to help with anything or give me advice or coping strategies. Every strand of hair I lost came with fear, tears and confusion. Does anyone really know what alopecia is and how to make it stop? I now have almost complete baldness, my eyebrows and the rest of the hair on my body keep…

Alopecia recovery story and some advice!

Hi Folks,

I'm just popping by to pass on my experience of Alopecia Areata, I won't be hanging around as I'm not too social but I promised myself that if I recovered then I would post up how/what I did to help myself in case it helps anyone    - I hope it helps some of you. I know this will not be relevant to all of you.

I lost 2/3 of ALL of my body hair last year in June. It happened at an incredible rate and scared the living crap out of me. Looking in the mirror I felt like a…

Seek and hide

Everyone loves a good game of hide and seek well me and Al' have rewritten the game to seek and hide.

I don't get the satisfaction one should get with the seeking part of this game but at least, for the moment, the hiding is quick and painless.

I'm Hoping this time I'll have my skills all down and covering up the evidence will be alot quicker. I guess I should be hoping that this time I care less about it especially as I'm loved so perfectly by someone that just loves me…

I'm taking control of my alopecia- it's not controlling me! Head shaved

I was having a routine hair cut in July 2013, when my hairdresser noticed a bald spot the size of a pea. I was upset but tried to put it out of my mind. Within weeks it had grown to the size of 10p then an egg size, soon bald patches were sprouting all over my crown and merging together!

Gutted is an understatement on how I felt. (Im 35years old.) But I was able to hide them by tying my hair up in a pony tail for about 4 months. In that time I never really noticed my hair falling out…
