NEW treatments to try

its been a while since I have posted on here but just wanted to let everyone know what I have discovered since I have been away so long. Maybe some of you could give these a try as they are not harmful or have chemicals etc in them.

one of the products I have been reading about is youngevity, and there is a young woman named Emily who used it and she grew her back and posted a testimony on the youngevity website. Its pretty much a package of supplements that you take collectively. I…

Great informational video on the causes of alopecia

Hello!

This video was created by the Functional Medicine doctor that I have been seeing for the last two years. When I first went to him I had a bald spot the size of a grapefruit on the back of my head, 8 other quarter size spots, only 1/2 of my left eyebrow and no eyelashes on my left eye. Within a few months ALL of my hair was growing back. I've had a couple of small spots since then, but the hair grows back quickly. I still see him, but now only once every 6 months. I had active…

Thought I was coping but now I am not

Hey there, I started with alopecia areata nearly two years ago and this summer in July all my hair and body hair fell out and I have alopecia totalis,  I was wearing wigs going out but now I hate them especially when I am eating a nice meal, I spent €350 on a wig and it feels like a swimming cap on my head and I am so conscious when people hug me or I am dancing and it just didn't feel right so I decided to go out bald.  I live in Clonmel a very small town and I tried going out in Cork bald…

Kindergarteners and diversity

My youngest daughter recently turned 6, and I got to go to spend the afternoon with her in her class. I arrived to her room before the class got back from music and was preparing their strawberry shortcakes when the students began arriving.  Comments soon began to fly: "She looks like a boy."  "Your mommy is bald headed."  "Where did her hair go?"  I could tell my daughter was beginning to get defensive.  "My mommy's cute.  I think she's beautiful."

The teacher wasn't back, so I asked…

My autobiography of alopecia in YA novel form

Last year I participated in NaNoWriMo (National November Write Month) and wrote, 50,000 words of a novel in the month of November.  This year, I decided to join again, and finished.  This novel is about a 17 year old who finds out she has Alopecia. Writing 50,000 words in a month, while you are trying to live your normal life is pretty tough, but this month has been an emotional roller coaster for me as I have relived so much of my own personal experiences through this writing process.  I…

Tape question

Hi everyone!  I've been wearing human hair wigs for six years now, and I know a woman in town who sells me a type of thin, breathable fabric that I can cut and set into the wigs so I don't have to put the tape directly on the lace (she calls it "skin").  However, she can't get the skin anymore, and I'm not having much success finding "tape tabs" online for purchase.  Where do you guys get tape tabs?

Thank you, and happy holidays!

To light hair I go!

All these years, I have worn dark colors from reds mixed with dark brown to black. I have never worn something so light! Honestly, I really don't like it! It's a very pretty wig, but I just don't feel good about. I am now stuck wearing it till it either falls apart or turns turn frizz.

My husband says it looks great! I feel it was to make me feel better. It wasn't the oh WOW factor with him. I look at it and I'm like"hmmm" makes me look older. Lexi was mom it's looks good and I…

Hair is growing

My Son Lost all his hair at 2 1/2 years old. Now he is 12.

Up until November 2013, he had little to no hair. That all changed a month later. In December 2013, His hair has started to grow back. He has regained about a 1/3rd of the hair back, with lots of new ones coming in.

Would anyone know what triggers a regrowth? I would like to help him grow even more hair back. Its a very confusing condition.

He is not taking any medication, so that is not a factor.

Need help with FDA for Patient Focused Drug Development Initiative - those with alopecia in the US

I am the legislative liaison for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation in Massachusetts.  We have an action alert out that we need as many people as possible to provide input on their condition as possible so that we can be involved in a program that the FDA has called Patient Focused Drug Development Initiative (PFDDI).  PFDDI is a program that the FDA has begun to get the patient perspective about what is like to live with a condition and how it affects their life in order to help with…

Finally!

I have been on Xeljanz for 2 1/2 months 5 mg 2X daily and just last week I got about 7 white, baby fine "vellus" hairs right on top of my head and many, many of the same hairs on my face !! Like forehead, cheeks, etc. I never had hair on my face before just above my upper lip that I would pluck. Thankfully, it is light. There are no other hairs anywhere else right now but I am hoping for more. I just wonder if "vellus" hair always means you will get "terminal" hair with pigmentation? ..

I just was want to feel beautiful again

I've been living with this for over a year now and I'm dealing with it better than I used to..i still hate it when people stare at me and give me weird looks or they say ignorant things to me. I work in retail and it hurts when people go out of their way to avoid me..i still have not gotten married because of my baldness...I try so hard to be more confident but when I'm at home I just break down and cry because I don't feel beautiful or pretty...i have talked to counselors and friends and…

Embracing alopecia

In the last few months I have gone from, barely any alopecia patches to barely any hair. Thru this time frame, I've experienced a mix of back & forth emotions between embracing it and hating it. But thru it all it has been so inspiring to see so many of you, confidently sharing your experiences. Thank you to all of you who have been brave enough to be open about your alopecia, you have all helped me to get to the point where I am now. Happy enough to love the situation I am in, hair or…

I wish

I wish I could go to the salon and get my hair high lighted and walk out feeling awesome, like I used to.

I wish I could wash my hair with the super expensive shampoo and conditioner that smelled awesome, that made my hair feel great.

I wish I could tie my hair up in a pony tail, instead of tying my bandana over my hairless head.

I wish I didn't have to pretend to be ok with losing my hair, to make people comfortable.

I wish my "courage/strength" wasn't based on…

AA vs. Cancer

We live in a world of all types of diseases. Today I found out that someone I love dearly has stage 4 cancer!!!! There is no chemo that will help her or radiation that will reduce the size or kill it off. With all of my health issues and aches and pains along with hair loss due to AA and LUPUS ............I took a step back today and said to myself............" I am fine!! Its not Cancer and I need to be strong and realize that this is NOTHING compared to CANCER..........Live Lupus and AA…

Girl bullied after cutting hair short to donate to charity

Fox News reported:

An Ohio mother is speaking out after she says her 10-year-old daughter was bullied at school because she cut her hair short to donate it to charity.

FOX45 reported Tuesday that Jetta Fosburg decided on her own to cut 14 inches off of her long blonde hair and donate it to Wigs for Kids, a charity that helps children with cancer and other hair loss issues.

“I have some family members who have cancer so I thought it was the right thing to…
