Chronic telogen effluvium after IUD birth control and stress

I wanted to start off saying I had the biggest head of thick coarse hair that i always took for granted. I was the one who would walk into a hair salon and everyone would argue you take her no you take her, it just was so thick you could see every cut mark made with their scissors everyone tried thinning my hair with the…

The Morphing of Crowned Regal 2015 -A Letter to My Friends at AW

Hello All,

It's been quite a long time since I've posting anything on Alopecia World and am happy to see that this website is still around and it's where you'll find the most beautiful bald people in the world!

I've been through quite a bit of life balance changes as lots of us have and just haven't had the time to post as much as I used to blog. I returned to this website as it still helps with this "roller coaster of a  ride" called alopecia. It' still helps me when I am in…

Do you believe in signs?

Do you believe in signs?

For well over a year now I've been seeing feathers in my path. Mainly at the park when I'm walking my beautiful Weimaraner dogs, but also in other places that are more random, like in the city on my path to work.

Anyway, so that's the feathers. Then, shortly after my diagnosis with AA, I was op shopping and found a stack of Barbie and Brats dolls. They were so cheap that I grabbed all the ones that didn't have missing limbs for my nieces and action man…

Regrowth

So my hair has started to grow back ... kind of. I guess what I have now would be AA. It is very patchy. I feel kind of ungrateful saying this but I actually wish it would just go away. Way less than 50% of my head has hair so it looks terrible. I don't tolerate my wigs anymore so I always wear a scarf to work and usually a hat outside of the office. I am so tired of covering my head!

Recommended hairdresser

Hi, I live on the Gold Coast and I am looking for a hairdresser who is good with cutting wigs. Does anyone have any recommendations. I have come across so many salons that won't touch a wig and I am struggling to find a good hairdresser that will. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Warmest Christmas greetings to you from Perth, Western Australia

Merry Xmas to you all! How did everyone survive the last two days? I had a beautiful day yesterday with both my family and my partners at our house. We blew tradition to the wind and had tapas lunch instead of the traditional food. Swimming and pool volleyball with the wee folk (until the dogs popped the ball - lol) and a few too many champagnes for the hostess! Today though, I'm exhausted and have ignored the world. It's been all about crochet and tv for me all day. You?

Intense head itching

My hair has been back two years and have never forgotten how awful it was living with alopecia.

Which is why I'm worrying because all of a sudden I'm getting an intensely itchy scalp followed by a bald patch.

I can handle the odd bald patch but is this the start of another awful period in my life?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa spots galore

I was so will-powered up at the work xmas party yesterday. I ignored the cheese platters and chocolate, strudel and cheesecake. I ignored the bread, bread sticks, dips and feta salad. There was still plenty of GF options and dairy-free things for me to eat and I was full to bursting.

Came home and bought the family pizza while I happily ate a mango and a peach.

Then as I'm watching TV I discover several new spots, all at the back of my head. I've been doing (nearly) everything…

4:00 AM Freak Out

I'm suddenly wide awake. It's totally dark and all I can hear is my white noisemaker. My jaw is sore from having been clenched hard during my sleep. I don't even have to get out of bed to check the time -- I already know that it's between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning. The only uncertainty is whether or not I'll be able to fall back to sleep before my alarm goes off a few hours later. I feel sad because I had been sleeping, and, while asleep, I had had some respite from my…

What I've tried

It took me a long time to realize the severity of hairloss that was in store for me.  At first, I assumed that the shedding was due to seasonal shifts and stress and that it would stop naturally.  I had plenty of hair and the slight thinning was noticeable only to me. In this stage, I tried Nioxin products and a grow-fast conditioner.  I had to switch back to Head and Shoulders when the cold weather led to dandruff, and the conditioner made my scalp itch, so I stopped using it.  I added…

NEW treatments to try

its been a while since I have posted on here but just wanted to let everyone know what I have discovered since I have been away so long. Maybe some of you could give these a try as they are not harmful or have chemicals etc in them.

one of the products I have been reading about is youngevity, and there is a young woman named Emily who used it and she grew her back and posted a testimony on the youngevity website. Its pretty much a package of supplements that you take collectively. I…

Great informational video on the causes of alopecia

Hello!

This video was created by the Functional Medicine doctor that I have been seeing for the last two years. When I first went to him I had a bald spot the size of a grapefruit on the back of my head, 8 other quarter size spots, only 1/2 of my left eyebrow and no eyelashes on my left eye. Within a few months ALL of my hair was growing back. I've had a couple of small spots since then, but the hair grows back quickly. I still see him, but now only once every 6 months. I had active…

Thought I was coping but now I am not

Hey there, I started with alopecia areata nearly two years ago and this summer in July all my hair and body hair fell out and I have alopecia totalis,  I was wearing wigs going out but now I hate them especially when I am eating a nice meal, I spent €350 on a wig and it feels like a swimming cap on my head and I am so conscious when people hug me or I am dancing and it just didn't feel right so I decided to go out bald.  I live in Clonmel a very small town and I tried going out in Cork bald…

Kindergarteners and diversity

My youngest daughter recently turned 6, and I got to go to spend the afternoon with her in her class. I arrived to her room before the class got back from music and was preparing their strawberry shortcakes when the students began arriving.  Comments soon began to fly: "She looks like a boy."  "Your mommy is bald headed."  "Where did her hair go?"  I could tell my daughter was beginning to get defensive.  "My mommy's cute.  I think she's beautiful."

The teacher wasn't back, so I asked…

My autobiography of alopecia in YA novel form

Last year I participated in NaNoWriMo (National November Write Month) and wrote, 50,000 words of a novel in the month of November.  This year, I decided to join again, and finished.  This novel is about a 17 year old who finds out she has Alopecia. Writing 50,000 words in a month, while you are trying to live your normal life is pretty tough, but this month has been an emotional roller coaster for me as I have relived so much of my own personal experiences through this writing process.  I…

Tape question

Hi everyone!  I've been wearing human hair wigs for six years now, and I know a woman in town who sells me a type of thin, breathable fabric that I can cut and set into the wigs so I don't have to put the tape directly on the lace (she calls it "skin").  However, she can't get the skin anymore, and I'm not having much success finding "tape tabs" online for purchase.  Where do you guys get tape tabs?

Thank you, and happy holidays!

To light hair I go!

All these years, I have worn dark colors from reds mixed with dark brown to black. I have never worn something so light! Honestly, I really don't like it! It's a very pretty wig, but I just don't feel good about. I am now stuck wearing it till it either falls apart or turns turn frizz.

My husband says it looks great! I feel it was to make me feel better. It wasn't the oh WOW factor with him. I look at it and I'm like"hmmm" makes me look older. Lexi was mom it's looks good and I…
