As my 50th birthday approached, I occasionally thought about the fact that much was about to change for me. I struggled with the thoughts of impending possibilities such as weight gain, wrinkles, aches and pains, and the gradual waning of my physical abilities. But I also thought about my journey with alopecia over the past 24 years.
With alopecia the questions were…

I have alopecia totalis and now because I have no hairs in my ears I have an ear infection which does not seem to be going away. It is like I have been swimming and there is water in my ears and it can be difficult to hear, is this a common thing does anyone know?

I was asked a question by a friend of mine who has her own over 50s blog. Her last blog was about women's hair going grey and her next blog will be about women losing their hair. Until she met me she'd never heard of alopecia. I too had never heard of it before I got it. Then I read somewhere that there are more people with alopecia than there are people with red hair. To me that was amazing.
I would love to hear others thoughts about why alopecia isn't well known. Is it because most…

Hello everyone! So i've been really interested in starting a youtube account and making makeup & hair tutorials! I've been watching different girls on youtube since i was 14 like michelle phan...I LOVE HER. But i also noticed that there isn't really a beauty guru that has alopecia or specializes in makeup that has to do with hair loss ( let me tell you there is a HUGE difference ). As my life goes on, my makeup and hair talents have grown tremendously. Also i am a working stylist and…

Hi All,
I would love for some input and recommendation.
- End of Sept notice quarter size patch.
- Received corticosteroid.
- Mid Dec, scalp became very itchy, flaky, and sore mainly on top center.
- Noticed the patch double in size.
- Following days, hair was coming out in clumps washing, dry combing, and even randomly.
- Went to another dermatologist on Christmas Eve and received corticosteroid shot and got blood work done just to ensure…

Does anyone have experience with the Hair Cub for Women? Specifically the non-surgical hair replacement.
Thanks,

Good afternoon. My name is Lori, and I have been losing hair for close to 5 years. It started in 2010 as a tiny patch above my ear - that my hair dresser saw. Then that got bigger, and the same thing happened on the other side (above ear). I am still to this day, able to "hide" it, as I have a bob haircut, and unless the wind blows, or my hair is wet - you cannot see it. Recently, I went to my derm, and asked if she thought it would stop. She said I had some follicular erythema along the…

So, where could I possibly start?
Having never been to a naturopath before, I took the advice of a friend and sought out a very well known one in my area. In the month I waited for my appointment, anyone I mentioned it to seemed to have heard of him and his silky skills. I got more and more excited as the appointment approached, which coincided with repeated trips back to my hopeless GP as we went through the process of blood tests and him delivering results in a monotone, emotionless…

At 21 I thought my hair would've been back by now. For the last 7-8 years I've mostly ignored the problem or pretended I didn't care. Reality is, I do care. I also wonder if my condition is in the way of having a relationship. I see many girls my age either married, engaged, or at least with someone, while I'm left alone. It really takes a special kind of guy to deal with our issues inside and out.
Basically the past 5 years have been hell, medically speaking. From my hair loss, 3…

Good afternoon, Everyone!
My name is Rebecca, 23, and I am new to Alopecia World. I thought making a blog post would be a great way to get started and to meet other people who are living life with alopecia. All of my life, I have always had long and beautiful hair. Before leaving the house, the one thing that had to be perfect was my hair.
I first noticed my hair loss starting around mid August of 2014 and was officially diagnosed with AA in October of 2014. My hair loss…

Hello All,
It's been quite a long time since I've posting anything on Alopecia World and am happy to see that this website is still around and it's where you'll find the most beautiful bald people in the world!
I've been through quite a bit of life balance changes as lots of us have and just haven't had the time to post as much as I used to blog. I returned to this website as it still helps with this "roller coaster of a ride" called alopecia. It' still helps me when I am in…

Do you believe in signs?
For well over a year now I've been seeing feathers in my path. Mainly at the park when I'm walking my beautiful Weimaraner dogs, but also in other places that are more random, like in the city on my path to work.
Anyway, so that's the feathers. Then, shortly after my diagnosis with AA, I was op shopping and found a stack of Barbie and Brats dolls. They were so cheap that I grabbed all the ones that didn't have missing limbs for my nieces and action man…
ContinueSo my hair has started to grow back ... kind of. I guess what I have now would be AA. It is very patchy. I feel kind of ungrateful saying this but I actually wish it would just go away. Way less than 50% of my head has hair so it looks terrible. I don't tolerate my wigs anymore so I always wear a scarf to work and usually a hat outside of the office. I am so tired of covering my head!

Merry Xmas to you all! How did everyone survive the last two days? I had a beautiful day yesterday with both my family and my partners at our house. We blew tradition to the wind and had tapas lunch instead of the traditional food. Swimming and pool volleyball with the wee folk (until the dogs popped the ball - lol) and a few too many champagnes for the hostess! Today though, I'm exhausted and have ignored the world. It's been all about crochet and tv for me all day. You?
My hair has been back two years and have never forgotten how awful it was living with alopecia.
Which is why I'm worrying because all of a sudden I'm getting an intensely itchy scalp followed by a bald patch.
I can handle the odd bald patch but is this the start of another awful period in my life?
