Hi Everyone, I'm curious if anyone knows of any upcoming events in Arizona for us? If not, would anyone be interested if I organized something somewhere central in to everyone living in or near Arizona?

I'm 35 years old and my son who is 4 years old and has alopecia since he was 1 years old. He received a new immunization shot at 1 and lost his hair, brows and lashes completely. I've been giving my son homeopath medicine during the last 2 years and he finally got his brows and lashes back. The top of his head is lightly patchy. He has been oblivious to his hair loss until recently when little kids in daycare inquire. This makes him sad and I am looking for support that I can offer in order to…

I am curious if any one has colored their hair and found that to be a trigger for alopecia areata (Or made alopecia worse) Beautician colored my hair in Dec. and a few days later my hair started to fall out in 2 new spots. Just starting to get a few hairs back after 4 months. A few weeks ago found a new spot on the back of my head. Not sure if the hair color had anything to do with it. Would love to have my gray roots colored, but I am afraid of causing more spots to appear. One derm told me Not…

At the end of my meal, the waitress says with a big smile, "Take off that hat!" I'm not sure why I chose to wear a hat today, but her statement was a pleasant surprise.
I have chosen to "live bald". No wigs and occasional hats. When I first lost all my hair, I wondered what strangers thought of my choice to go bald--can she not afford a wig or she must be really sick. But now I am so comfortable being bald and sharing my life with alopecia.
My encounter with the…

I am a manager at McDonalds. Started there when my second daughter was born as the hours worked out quite well, figured if I was going to spend a bunch of time there I may as well make some money at it and work my way up as much as I can, if nothing else it will look better on a resume when I want to get back to working a "real" job... lol (I find that comment particularly funny because I think I have worked harder there than I ever have in my life) Anyways, I am pleased to announce that I am…

Hi,
I'm Liz. I've had Alopecia Aerate for.... about 9-10 years now, (I've not really been counting!) And thats okay :) It's been good, and it's been bad, but thats life! School was hard, primary was fine, but moving to secondary school was tough, but you get passed the staring and the awkward questions, and eventually my hair grew enough so that it would hide the patches.
But yet again AA strikes, and yesterday I decided to just get rid of it! I feel in control now!! Yes, people…

So I guess it's about time I posted a blog especially since I've gotten my first hairpiece for a month now!
I've had alopecia areata since i was 13, at first I noticed that the hairline on my temples were reciding but I did not take much notice of it until one day my cousin decided she wanted to style my hair and freaked out as she discovered some bald spots. At first I told my parents but they ignored me until months later when it started getting worse and thought it could be…

I have typically been the person who doesn't talk about alopecia but lately I been getting better at this and have been talking more about it to close friends. I must say while I don't regret telling my friends, the reactions have been......disappointing.
Like one friend asked if it just affects the hair on my head. I told her that at this point its just my head but it could progress to my entire body. Her response? "I'd still talk to you!" I think she meant it to kind of lightened…

Today is April 19th, 2009. It was just about 3 months ago when I noticed a dime sized bald patch in my beard on the left side of my face. I Googled "facial hair loss" or something like that and found a forum with post after post from guys with the same thing. I was a little freaked out.
Over the next couple of weeks that patch started to get bigger and it spread. I came to grips with the fact that I would need to be clean-shaven until either ALL my facial hair stops growing, or, God…

Is it possible to have a deep, multi-layered crisis in your life that somehow manages to touch every aspect of your being?
Sometimes it seems to me that we humans seem to continuously move between crises -- whether they are those of our own making or those created by someone else that has a direct impact on us -- and yet, when we finally emerge from the crisis of the moment into some area of peace, it seems we're never satisfied with that status quo -- and often end up looking for…

This is a paper I wrote for my English 302 course at my university. I was able to choose whatever topic I wished and I decided that I wanted to educate people about something that brings all of us together. I worked really hard on it and would like to know the opinions of people who live day to day with Alopecia just like me....Please let me know what you think about it :)

I heard Michael J. Fox speak a year ago. It was when I was just losing my hair and very depressed and angry. I came away from his talk feeling inspired and uplifted. When I saw him speak, he couldn't stand or sit still, and was constantly fighting his body's involuntary movements. The new TIME magazine (April 27, 2009 issue) has "10 Questions" with him. I'd like to share a few of the questions. Every time it says "Parkinson's disease", substitute "Alopecia":
Q: How do you keep your…

I'm 29 weeks pregnant now and the white little hair on my head is still growing and also becoming a big thicker than it was before my pregnancy. My eyebrows have also come out a little bit more but they are not really full eyebrows. I think my eyelashes are still falling out but there's fortunately still a little bit left!
I don't have a single hair on my body and what I'm asking myself is if it's possible to have hair on your head but no hair on your body? I've just heard from…

Hi everyone! So yesterday and today were HUGE days for me! I met with Karen Peterik of Freedom Wigs yesterday, and she was absolutely inspiring! She has such a positive attitude and carries herself with style and confidence; Karen and the many other women who have been through this tough journey and have come out of it that much stronger are such role models for me. We ordered my vacuum wig, and I SHAVED MY HEAD!!! It was awesome!! I was a little bit nervous, but mostly excited. My Mom,…

Sorry it's taken me so long, but I finally put up a new (updated) picture of my new wig. Here it is!
I'm getting married soon (Sept) and this is just after my makeup trial. Hope you like it. I know that I love it. It's so thick and lucious in comparison to my old wig and I love the rich dark color too.
Hope everyone is doing well.
