Hi everyone...
I have a question about those who lost their eye lashes and eye brows. When you lost them did you lose them all at once or was it gradual? Could you tell you were losing them? Also, when you started to lose them did you have any hair on your head or any fuzz where hair growing in? Once you lost your eye lashes and eye brows did they ever grow back? The reason why I am asking this is because I have AA since I was four and only hair on my head. The other day I noticed some…

Ok..My daughter is 6 years old and I was fixing her hair so I could take her to gymnastics and I found about a quarter size spot in the back of her hair. I feel so sad for her. When I went to the doctor last week I asked him about it and he gave me some gel to start using on her hair twice a day...but he said that it was unusual to see a mother and daughter with AA. Does anyone know if that is unusual? She is very supportive of me though and she always says,"mommy if you lose all of your hair…

I am back in NY for the summer to complete my masters degree and be done with school officially. Just like last summer I have been wearing a scarf around my head and have not been wearing my wig as it's too much bother and gets too warm. I have now, just this week, had two different people come up to me and ask me if I am "receiving treatment".
I think this is so horribly and unbelievably rude. 1) no i do not have cancer 2) when and where did people learn that this was socially…

I have my travel plans for Alopeciapalooza set up now and I'm so pumped for my workshop! I have some more work to do to set everything up and all but it's all good! I also got this email this morning from my website and the Toronto group is in the works of setting up CANAAF (Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation) and they'd like me to sit in on one of their meetings. I'm hoping they'll let me be as much a part of this as I can be because this is what I've been hoping for for quite some time. I…

Wow. Yesterday I found out that a friend of ours that we haven't seen since Christmas has been diagnosed with breast cancer, had a double mastectomy, and is going through chemo. Her husband shaved her head for her and her little boy shaved his too. What great souls kids have. Anyway, when I said my prayers last night, I prayed especially long for her, and then asked forgiveness for me being such a selfish person worrying about my own hair falling out while this woman is fighting for her life. I…

Seriously, I am honestly trying really hard to form to form a support group here in Winnipeg. And not having ANY success. its like no one has it, but I know there are a lot in Winnipeg with the disease because our dermatologist says he sees more and more people each month being diagnosed but everyone is damn well hiding. I want for my daughter to meet other kids and have only ONE honest person intrested in this group and meeting, thank you Christine! I have met others through the support group…

Just finished my A level exams yay!
Just thought I'd post what happened to me today. Went into a shop selling t-shirts and the like with slogans about the area with live in. I saw a cap saying 'Shropshire Lass' on it which I thought would be funky for University as I'm goin quite far away. I didn't have my wig on and I think the woman must have thought I was ill because she said they were £10 but only £5 for me and without me saying anything she then offered me the pink one in the window…

Ok, so last week I saw a different doctor at my GPs, after my blood tests came back clear.
So I wanted to discuss my options with him.
So i asked if I could see a dermatologist and he said i could do, I asked about steroids he said they wouldnt help.
So I asked about accupuncture, and he said that was useless too, so I tried asking about caffeine based potions and minoxodil he said they dont work. He said all that will help is exercise.
Maybe he thinks this will help with my…

I love me some Oprah, I do. She struggles with her weight. I struggle with my weight. She motivates people. I motivate people. She has a passion for sharing information that can help us improve our lives. I have a passion for sharing such information (though I’ve done it on a much smaller scale). When Oprah ran a marathon, I wanted to run a marathon. And I did run a marathon. Because Oprah inspired me. Because Oprah made me think it was possible.
Oprah usually gets it right. But for…

Well I just held another support meeting and it went well. It was a small turnout but that was okay because someone new to the group needed some in-depth attention and all the right people were there for him - coincidentally. I'm going to go ahead with plans for an afternoon in the park on National Bald Out day which I will add to the events (soon I hope). Other than National Bald Out day (Now International…

Hi :)
Thought I should update my blogging, as I haven't written for a while, and I have had quite an interesting day!
Went back into school today for the first time in a good few weeks (Oh the life of a student on study-leave!!) Had to set up my art exhibition in the art room, which was a bit of a palaver, but at least it's done now!! What a relief. Although I had forgotten what the little scum bags in the younger years are like. unfortunately there was a class of year 9…

Ive been looking online for wigs and I bought 2, one a 2 tone blonde and black, and a pink one. I like to switch my look up quite a bit so Im looking forward to wearing them. I think the patch in the front of my head is getting bigger and starting to become noticeable so Im always in a hat and I dug out a few of my old scarves. The one good thing about this is Im a free spirit and kind of always do my own thing so wigs and scarves wont be to much of a shock to anyone that knows me. I doubt that…

Just wondering if anyone with alopecia areata has had any trouble with thyroid and or adrenal glands? When my alopecia first started after waking in the morning I would sweat and have a very fast heart beat, this happened several times through out the day. I lost weight. Went to our Dr. at the clinic and was told my thyroid test was on the low side but was still considered normal. Just started me on beta blockers for the heart beat! Started taking natural vitamins from my acupuncture DR. All…

HI everyone
I have had AT since I was 17. My lashes are my own, and my brows come and go, right now I have them on 1 side. I'm not very good at "doing " my brows. Any tips or good products to use?

met with my dermotologist again last friday for my third intramuscular kenalog (steriod) shot. i have dense, dark regrowth in all three of my current bare spots with the exception of one dime size portion of the largest spot which insists on remaining hairless. it's good i suppose. i'm relieved. i'm also trying to remind myself that it may or may not be permanent. the intramuscular steriod shots appear to be responsible. stay tuned.

I am so sick of everyone making comments about my head! I just had one of my good friends come over to pick up my daughter and take her fishing. As soon as she walked in the door she said "You shaved your head again, didn't you? I thought you was going to let it go". My response to her was, "Why does everybody keep making comments about my head? I am real tired of everybody saying something about my head every time they see me".
I am honestly sick of my family and friends constantly making…

Well, I am new to speaking about my AA. When I lost all my hair from the ears up in 1996, I tried to keep a positive outlook and not feel sorry for myself. I found a great looking wig, in fact, my now ex-husband said he liked it better than my real hair. (That's not why he's my ex) It really wasn't bad. Only two of my co-workers knew it was a wig. After about 8 months of baldness, everything grew back. After that, through the years I had a spot here and there, but with sooo much hair, it was…
