Earlier today I was on Tumblr, looking for nothing in particular, and I ran into a quote. A quote that couldn't stop making me laugh! Usually when I read something on alopecia or hair loss, my first reaction isn't to laugh, but to frown. Anyway, the quote was: "I'm too sexy for my hair, that's why it isn't there"
Isn't that such a positive way of thinking? I want that quote on a shirt. I googled it, and I think it's supposed to be for older men who are experiencing hair loss. But I'm…

According to the Josephfleischer.com Blog:
"Dealing with alopecia can be an isolating experience, even when you have a strong support system of family and friends around. It’s hard for people to commiserate when they aren’t sharing the same types of personal experiences that you are.
Luckily, we live in an age where information, advice and…

So I've had a conversation, and was asked why I don't take any treatment. And to be honest, I never really thought of having treatment of any kind. To put it simple, I just don't think it's necessary. I mean, I've had alopecia for so long, without any signs of it ever going away. Maybe I just don't want to get my hopes up to have it knocked down when the treatment doesn't work. I don't know. I'm happy where I am right now. Happy with how I'm dealing with it. And by taking treatment, it makes…

So my best friend Maria recently learned that I wore a hairpiece. Of course she already knew I had alopecia but she didn't know to what extent. Anyway, I told her and my other friend Yadira. We were at a park and it seemed like a good moment. Maria even felt the underside of my hairpiece to make sure, since she thought I was lying. They both took it extremely well to my surprise. They didn't ask too many questions but they didn't seem uncomfortable to ask simple ones. Like when I first got…
ContinueSo I finally made the decision to get a wig. After a year and a half of alopecia areata out breaks, resulting in a patch that looks as though it might never regrow. I decided to invest in a nice wig thanks to the help of my grandma and boyfriend. It was a big decision:
1. During the summer it is really hot in DC and I did not want…

Father, I behold You in all of your majestic glory and the awesomeness of Your name, I AM that I AM. It is in the power of Your Spirit, I am able to do and become all You envisioned. It is in the power of Your Spirit I am able to reach beyond myself to help others become all You envisioned as well. Amen

I am 42 years old. Since last October I have been gluten free. I have decided to also try to go organic and no fast foods, no artificial this or that (for the most part). I have also decided to make a choice to just eat healthy. As a side effect or perhaps result of my efforts and food choices...my hair has started to grow everywhere. Its been a month since i had also started the Probiotics in my diet. I noticed fine little hairs all over my head and in my eyebrows, about 1/8" long. My…

I have my Dr appt and hubby says steroid cream may help too, and I said then I'm cutting off all of my hair (so I can see all of the spots. He proceeds to say I will look "stupid." Well he's a dork and there's no way I can get lotion through my hair now. Maybe a really short cut and slowly go shorter. He does need a lesson in empathy though.

I'm wondering... how long does it take to go from Areata to Universalis?
The bald spots on my head keep growing and now I've discovered small ones under my armpits and on my eyebrows. It also feels like my eyelashes are thinning out.
Any experiences/stories you want to share? Isn't it a bit unusual to skip the Totalis?
Greetz from Germany!

Two years ago, March, 2011 to be exact, I incurred my first bald spot. 5 months later I was completely bald. I had never heard of Alopecia…now Alopecia was controlling my emotions, actions and my entire life. I did not want to venture out in public with my condition and taking pictures was a no-no. And when I did leave my home, I did so in complete fear of people staring at me and whispering under their breath about me. I tried to smile but I didn’t mean it… I was too heartbroken. I was…

Last Saturday (August 3) was International Alopecia Day. A day created a few years ago to bring more awareness to the world and also to bring a supportive and unifying voice to all those affected by alopecia.
This year I decided to share my voice to this cause by spending the day at a local botanical garden. Enjoying a beautiful summer day and surprisingly bug free. For International Alopecia Day, a day of feeling empowered and confident I felt none of it. In the nearly 3 years since…
