I've been wearing a hairpiece for a year and a half now. I have two beautiful human hair wigs that I love and use wig tape. However, I still find myself in situations I don't know how to address and would love some advice.
I haven't been to an amusement park since before my hair fell out. My physics class is going to an amusement park next month, and I'm worried that my hairpiece will fall off on a ride. Has anyone gone to an amusement park with a hairpiece? Will I be able to go on a…

Hi everyone, I am Cynthia or Cindy for short. I love books, so it is no surprise I am a librarian^^;
I probably had Alopecia starting late last December or very early this January. I have had three appointments with the dermatologist so far. We did steroid shots the first two times. Not fun, and they haven't helped. I have probably lost 1/4 to 1/3 of my hair since January. I have recently started wearing scarves, headbands, and hats full time. This could easily change soon since my…

When the hair finally grows back why does it take so long to actually grow in length. Is that part of the alopecia? Does it always grow out like baby hair and thicken and grow slowly. How did your new growth come in?
Thanks.

A few weeks ago, I commented that my hair was probably thicker than it had been in a year. Well, it's falling out all over the place--again! New spots, more spots. I have a steroid foam I could use on the spots, but I'm not sure if I'll use it. I don't really care...okay that's not entirely true. Not sure if I'm starting to accept it (AA), or if I just have a bit of an attitude today! :)

I wish I could walking around with my wig off and feel good about myself. I see all these girls on here going out without anything on their head. I wish I had the balls to do that, I would feel like people are talking about me and I can't stand it when people look at me... Guys have it easy, they can pull off not having hair and walking around. Girls, not so much, people see a girl with no hair and they just look at us like we are not human. I really wish it didn't bother me that people look at…

This post is dedicated to my beautiful sister, Brenda.
I lost all of my hair. It took about 3 years, but the end came quickly. I don't know if it's universalis or totalis or whatever, I don't really care. It's all gone. But that's fine now.
It was when my sister started losing her hair that I felt sick inside all over again. My sister had THE hair. Beautiful, naturally curly, she is talented at creating styles and being complimented all the time on how awesome her hair…

I am mom of 14 month old Anthony who, over the last 3 weeks, has lost all of his hair. We confirmed today what we suspected was alopecia areata, in his case totalis, and are doing blood work to confirm there are not any further issues. The doctor wants to treat him with steroids and this was initially alarming to me...giving a baby steroids (not that his petite 20 lb frame couldn't use some bulking). I asked about side effects and they didn't really have an answer, nor have I been able to find…

Last night I had a new neighbor over for dinner. We are both single and I thought it would be nice to get together. I have had AU for two years now, but I ALWAYS wear a wig. Dinner went well, and when he left, he gave me a hug and my wig caught on his sleeve and fell off.....I picked it up off the ground and put it back on, and made some joke about how I can go from bald to beautiful in 2 seconds flat...and quickly explained I had no hair due to AU.... I am still so embarassed....(I know it…

I've now lost around 80% of my eyebrows. Joy.
I've been augmenting them - because they've been really pale and thin for a while - with a brown eye-liner pencil and it's been working well, but till now i've had enough hair to use as a shape guide for drawing on the brows.
I've heard about stensils and stuff, but I don't really understand how they work or where to get them. Can anyone help?? I know there are a few blogs and discussions up like this but am having trouble finding them :P

I love fashion magazines. I can't really explain why but I love the artistry of design. Have you ever noticed (those of you who read them) that when they publish a feature about "hair loss" alopecia is NEVER mentioned??????? Why is that?? Do we need to have a louder public voice?? Just a thought.

I finally had the courage to post my first bald picture today, I was scared thinking what would everyone think?
I supose that is my only fear in life, I of course never walk around my home like as zi know I get strange looks from my kids,I feel like i'm an embarrasemnt to the and I always have to wear a crazy bandana over my head which normally gives me a massive headache.
I only want one wish in life and thats to have my children accept me for who I am, and maybe one day they woud…

My daughter started going through alopecia in July 2010. As soon as this started happening to her, Grandma put her on mega kid vitamins. Her hair was growing back but still falling out. It was slowly growing even at that. But we had no idea what this was. Took her to the Dr. and they told us there's no cure. Anyways. I found out her Iron was low so i put her on Iron and vitamin c. Her iron is normal now but thinking I might check again to see if i can make it higher normal range. She was anemic…

Has anyone else out there tried any 'alternative' therapies &/or supplements that may have helped with their alopecia?
I first started with AA (aged around 40) and it developed into ophiasis form all up the back of my head and around one ear. I went to my doctor who found that I was anaemic so prescribed iron tablets. I was taking three tablets a day and it was yuk! He also suggested vitamin B complex and zinc so I added those to the shopping list!
At the same time I…
