I went to the Dermatogist January 19th and got topical steroids to try, 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. I did it for first two weeks but then i decided im not going to bother anymore! Its not a for sure thing, and I really dont want the false hope of it growing back in and then fallling out again some time in the future, Im ok with being bald now. anyway... my roomate is doing nursing and for a project she is going to do it on Alopecia and have me speak, so today we started and she looked at my head…

for the last 3 years I have been conversing daily with a man in australia, whom I consider one of my bestest, supportest, friends. He sent me this a few weeks ago and this being Valentine's Day I thought it only fitting to share it with you all. For it is a wonderful sentiment at anytime to share.
"Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you've never shared with another soul and they absorb…

I have had AU for 11 years now. I have had times where I get spots but they always fall back out. But in January I was hospitalized with a severe kidney infection. I have a staghorn calculous plus 3 kidney stones and 5 absesis all in my right kidney. My doctor says that the stag horn is almost as big as my kidney. A stag horn is a very larg mishapen kidney stone. Mine lookes like a two headed jalapeno. I still have a drain tube in my back draining out infection. But anyways, a few weeks…

It's been 3 years and 6 months. Unemployment came and went. I had to file for bankruptcy, no money in means no money to go out; no choice in the matter. Difficult to maintain a home with one income where it needs two. I had to give my car back. I managed. I survived because I'm married and my husband works. We cut back as far as possible, even moved into a lesser rent apartment. We were lucky the complex we live in worked with us. While my husband was good with everything we had our moments.…

I found this many years ago. And while going thru some stuff I came across it again.
MY DECLARATION OF SELF ESTEEM
I am me.
In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. There are person who have some parts like me, but no one adds up exactly like me. Therefore, everything that comes out of me is authentically mine because I alone chose it.…

Not hair related but still alopecia related - I have spent awhile looking at my nails today, all ridges and flaky, I debate often about getting some expensive 'nail hardener' stuff from the shops, but then think is it just a ploy to spend more money.
I also heard that fake nails help real nails to grow as they don't get knocked, yet I also hear fake nails can ruin real nails. Do I stop covering them in nail varnish to recover? Yet colouring them helps me add to me feeling more female.…

Hi Guys,
Hope you are all well.
I am really really confused. I have been diagnosed with Lichen Planopilaris which results in scarring alopecia. In the past month I’ve lost a lot of hair from my crown area and have been wearing my hair back….sort of like a comb over for a girl.
Before the alopecia got bad I always wore my hair open, I’m scared people will soon start asking the reason as to why I wear my hair up especially at family occasions or nights out. My parents are…

i just moved to boston and i'm loving it so far but the air here is very dry. i just saw a picture someone tagged me in and my hair looks so dried out! i know this can be a problem with wigs because our scalp oil doesn't really get on the hair. does anyone have tips for how to deal with this? also, i have bangs and sometimes they get oily and I need to wash my hair but washing it too much dries out the rest of it. any advice is welcome!

Every day I wake to find my patches have grown. I read the posts & blogs on here & everyone is so strong. It's been helping, but man, this sucks LOL I know the strength to deal with this won't come over night, so I try very hard to remain positive as I am a firm believer in the power of positivity in all things. I have shared what is going on with family and close friends who have been an amazing support. I am blessed to have such amazing people in my life.
I ordered a wig off…

I feel I need to apologize for my "rant".
It was one of those days. One might call it a "feel sorry for yourself day" or my kids might say I was "wigging out".
You need to know I read these AW blogs and AW it all connects. I feel home. This is the first time people understand. The people here know what it like to put a face on in the morning, you know the stares, the impolite as well as the ones that are too too polite.
Sincerely,
Donna Kooken

Hi everyone on AW!
It's been a few weeks. Christmas is over and work is in high gear. Lots of projects and no time to come on here and talk to everyone. I miss that and hope I can get on more.
Last time I posted I talked about wearing a wig to my work holiday party. I did not end up wearing one to that event, but since then I have been wearing them more frequently. Actually I should qualify that, wearing them around people who know me and know what I look like…

On two separate occasions I have been in a situation where family members have made comments that were rather insulting. I was too baffled to say anything. The most recent comment really bothered me since I have been trying so hard to regain my confidence. I am a very self aware and self confident individual. However, after being faced with losing all but 1% of my hair in 3 weeks and now losing almost all of my eyebrows and eyelashes, it has taken a toll on how I feel in public. I know…

Today was the first day in a long time that it was not easy being an alopecian.
For those that know me and following me on my facebook page "Bald and Fabulous" I work hard on spreading awareness and inspiring others to embrace who they are in the face of alopecia. I do share my page around to different facebook pages, mainly those of other businesses and support sites. Today was the first time I received a "hater" comment. Nothing obviously rude, but enough to prove the point that the…
