Hi there everyone,
I know there are a lot of you that do not wear wigs on this site and are ok with it. I am one of those ones that in this stage of the game is just too chicken to do that. So, anyone that has any experience with wigs and buying them, which are the best ones, ect.. have ANY advice for me, please post here! I don't want to get taken, these things are not cheap!! Thanks in advance!!!

Today is my first day of this 'Master Cleanse' (if anyone has heard of/tried it). I've been losing intrest in everything and gaining weight (nearly 20 lbs in 3 weeks) suddenly. I've always had chronic pain, that I self medicate with alcohol, as long as I can remember. So I've decided today to begin the cleanse - afterall having not missed a day to drink in seven plus years I think the toxins might need some help to get out. Plus I hear your energy will increase and lord knows I could use…

I happen to have a very beautiful mother. I know everyone says that but she really is unusually beautiful and ridiculously unaware of it. She has smooth dark skin with big almond shaped brown eyes, a straight small nose, a contagious white smile, great legs, dark hair and genes passed down that gave her a great shape she never had to work for. She was valedictorian when she graduated, and played pro tennis until an injury led her to start her life as I know it now. While I was growing up my…

As I noted in my intro, I am am a widower. Four years ago, I lost the love of my life to a very rare form of leukemia. With chemo, there are varying degrees of hairloss. With the intensity of the chemo and a bone marrow transplant that was indicated for treatment of my spouse's cancer, AU is a certainty. With such a treatment regimen, hairloss may be temporary or sometimes not. A few other husbands and I formed a very casual support system. We all agreed upon one thing - nobody could care less…

Pay it forward. At least that’s what I’ve been taught. Never ask for anything personal in return for a gift given…it is just that, kindness with no expectation or desire for reward. Conversely, a gift or act of kindness received should be paid forward tenfold, not necessarily to the giver, but to another in a time of need.
We’ve all been there. The kindness of a stranger who retrieves a dropped glove, the person that holds a door open when your arms are full, the cashier that gives…

Well, today is day 5 for Della and Angel's Kindergarten career. I have to say they have enjoyed almost every moment thus far. Although, Della had been coming home after school telling me things that I haven't heard too frequently. She said she wanted her hair to grow back.
Since the teacher's home visit before school began we have talked about alopecia and we have told her just about everything that I know about it. She was welcoming and warm to Della and agreed to talk about it if…

My days have been so wonderful and so much less lonely. I have been spending a good portion of my time with a fellow alopecian from this site. He is the most sweetest caring man I have ever had the pleasure to know. Most of you know him, he is indeed a freind to man and nearly half of the people on here. He brought me to this site, I had been alone with Alopecia for years to discover a whole new world of knowledge and freinds. I value each and every one of you . I hope that I can make my…

When I was a freshman in high school , as most boys are, I was girl crazy. Of course, I was awkward, shy and very insecure. However, despite these liabilities, I did manage to have a few successful dates. One day, while changing classes, I noticed a girl who I had not seen before. In a teenage hormal rage, I found myself immediately drawn to her. She was awfully cute with a pretty face, slender figure, blond hair and wearing the sexiest pair of horned rimmed glasses this kid had ever seen. I…

Hey there everyone,
Does anyone on this site had the experience of having AA and then it turning into AT? If so, can you share your experience and how fast it happened? I'm just not sure if I'm turning for the worse now, it sure feels and looks that way. I've been shedding more and more everyday and my hair is feeling REALLY THIN now! I'm scared out of my mind and everything in me is in a shock-mode. I just want to know what to expect is this what is happening to me. Thanks.

Cheryl and I would like to know how you feel about someone (an alopecian or non-alopecian) joining Alopecia World to look for the love of their life.
For the record, we do not have any problem with singles meeting and mingling in Alopecia World as long as they always bear in mind that this…

I’ve just had my first holiday in the sun as a bald person. I had a great time getting a tan on top of my head and clearly looked relaxed and healthy on my return. Several people did comment on how much healthier I looked without hair. Obviously a tan makes people look well but they did say that the tan and the bald image made me look really well.
I must admit that the lack of hair also made life so much easier while I was away. Although I had to take care to apply sun tan lotion to…

First - Thank you for responding to me and sending me encouragement. It really did encourage me to know that I'm not the only one going through this. I don't really feel like I can vocalize everything that I'm feeling yet, and it helps to know that other people have been there. Thank you!!
Its been a little over a week since I noticed the first two patches...and holy cow this thing is moving fast. The three patches that I had in the back have all merged into one giant patch. There's…

So I wrote back in April about my lifestory - especially about how much I struggled with my self esteem even up to then regarding being a bald female. What a rough road it has been. And yet I also wrote about some changes like the courage it took for me to even write my story. I posted pics of myself bald on this site a couple months ago and that was another huge step for me - out there for the world to see! I even posted a link to AW on my Facebook profile. Really putting myself out there -… Continue

I seriously think that some people are just born unlucky - like me! Unlike most I was unlucky before environmental factors kicked in, I was adopted by the wicked witch of the west and was hers from day one. At least my adopted dad was something good that came out of this all but unfortunately he's been gone for about 10 years now. Beyond that I've had countless unlucky events, doesn't matter what it is! Now just recently I've been trying for a few years to get child support from my ex and the…

Hello Alopecia World!
My mini-hiatus is over and I can finally begin to (somewhat) relax. I hope you all have been well.
I finished summer school last week, which is such a weight off of my shoulders. My job has been progressing nicely and I've finally finished the layout and edits on this year's season brochure, mini-pamphlet, ticket order form and fall newsletter. So for this next week it's just press releases and postcard designs for me until I finally get to go home!…

Hello,
I found this looking around on the rnet about herbs that are used for anti-inflammatory,
"In addition to medical drugs, many herbs have anti-inflammatory qualities, including hyssop, ginger, Turmeric, Arnica montana which contains helenalin, a sesquiterpene lactone, and willow bark, which contains salicylic acid, a substance related to the active ingredient in aspirin. Cannabichromene, one of the many cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant, has been shown to…

Well like the majority of us on the website the first thing I did was research. I learnt the alopecia is an autoimmune disease that can be brought about by stress and it is something that has a possible genetic link. If stress alone caused alopecia then the Mcanns looking for their missing child madeline would be going through totalis by now. Stress effects us in different ways and with some of us it can unfortunately cause alopecia.
Obviously, the psychological effects it can have…
