My baby

well as most of you know my 8 year old has Alopecia and has for almost a year now. We have decided to stop treatments as they do work but hair just falls out in other places and falls out again in the regrowth, so whats the point. I just wanted to share that we have stopped obsessing over how to treat it and decided to just live with it.

To speak or not to speak, that is the question!!!!!!

Yesterday as I was travelling back from London I stopped at a motorway service station for a coffee. As I stood in the queue another “Alopecian” joined the queue. It was clear that he noticed my Alopecia. It is obvious now that I am not just simply bald as my eyebrows have virtually all gone and so the alopecia is plain to see. He was also completely bald and had no eyebrows so I naturally assumed he was the same as I am, AU.

I was speaking to the person behind the counter but I… Continue

Update today 2/26/09

Today I had my first apmt with my sons Endo since the MRI. Welllllllllll that dang nurse gave me the wrong information over the phone. My son in fact does have a tiny tiny tumor 3mmX3mm in size in his pituitary gland. This tiny little tumor is causing his hypothyroidism. The good thing is, no sugury is needed. The dr will re-do the Mri again in one year, unless bloods show it may have grown. Its a microadomena and usually these do not grow. It can in fact mess up his other endocrin organs, and… Continue

alopecia areata.

Hi , my name is Katie and I am new to this site. I hope someone can help me deal with alopecia areata. I had one spot in November, the hair grew back. Now I have 2 spots the size of a half dollar. The dermatologist injected the spots about 5 weeks ago, hair continues to keep falling out of the same spots. Will go back to the dermatologist next Monday.

New to this World

I don't know what I'm really doing on this site or why at this point in my life I am so interested in this part of myself. I have been brought up to be proud of who I am and alopecia has never been a major factor in my life. I didn't get my first wig until I was 15 and they are more of a toy than anything else to me. I am still comfortable with who I am although I have encountered a lot of diversity through my life. I don't know why now I am so interested in others and this part of myself.… Continue

Appearance questions

I have been looking at everyone's pictures and I am noticing that no one has a red scalp. I have been diagnosed with AA and my scalp is red and often feels tingly. Also, I haven't lost my hair all at once. It has been thinning for over a year now. The part that is frustrating is that I keep thinking that my hair is growing back b/c I have hair that is about an inch long around my face (it's like baby hair and it's kind of unmanageable), but as time has gone by I am realizing that my hairline is… Continue

Weaning work into accepting alopecia

I've been working at the same place for over 7 months now. For those of you who don't know, I endured wearing a wig during the interview process and for the first probationary three months. After three months I ditched the wig and at my managers suggestion that the "customers" would feel more comfortable with seeing something on my head, I donned a scarf or bandana. Since I've worn the scarf I noticed that people seemed to be more concerned that I was ill. I've been asked if I had cancer and… Continue

Back now...

Wow... i was MIA for a LOOONG time. My computer crashed and school has taken away my life... LOL anyway... i'm back.

:-) treatment seems to be working, maybe? I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. My mom is already convinced that in the space of weeks I'll have all my hair back. I know that's not going to be the case, but I can't convince her of that. Oh well. :-(

Hang in there everyone, hopefully I'll be around more.

Stupid regrowth

Why can't my hair make up its mind?

I shaved my head about a year ago 'cos I was sick of having half long straggly hair, half bald head. I got a freedom wig which I love and wear almost all the time.

Then about 6 months ago, I stopped having to shave at all - which was nice.

Now I have more hair than I've had in a while - most of it is white fuzz but some is getting some colour back too. Part of me thinks, what if it all came back?! But realistically, I know… Continue

Today I cried

I read a story about a little girl in Mass. with Alopecia. Her cheerleading team and all the pop warner football team wore bandanas on their heads or a T on their helmets to support her during a fundraiser. One of the parents (a coach) and a player shaved their heads to support her.

I read this in the latest NAAF newsletter, and got teary-eyed. Then, I read it out loud to my husband and started sobbing. What an amazing group of people. It made me wish I had that kind of community… Continue

Well tomorrow has come and gone again...

I am still sad, stressed and depressed!

I am still confused, tired and hurt!

Sad, because I want to just hide under the covers of my sheets and sleep until my hair grows back!

And now reality has just struck… it may never grow back

I feel I can't go through another day like this…

Stressed because I have been trying to avoid going back to work,

I really do think it was the job and boss I had back in October

I blame him for all this has happening to… Continue

A woman's wig saves her life

Here is the link to this incredible story. Someone was shooting at this woman and the bullet was stopped by the cap to her wig. The bullet was tangeled in her hair. She said the back of her head felt hot but the bullet didn't go through.

Oh boy... definately need some help on this one guys...

It's only been just over a month since it's started falling out for the third time in 3ish years and almost all of it has disappeared. It surprisingly didn't hit me hard this time, suppose I'm getting used to the hair on my head falling out.

Now, this time is different from others though... very unfortunately. I am now blessed with losing my eyebrows and eyelashes... :( I am quite unhappy with that matter. They are falling out from the ends inward and inward to ends so it's starting… Continue
