Summer of Changes 2008

I have had a wonderful summer this year. My first one being officially divorced. I took my first (of many) summertime vacations , a chance to play and sit beside my pond. I started to wear wigs out all the time .I joined this wonderful site and no longer feel alone in my differentness. I have found a peace inside me that I have not known in over twenty years. A meddling occurred between my two selves and I was able to see my life in it's completness, no more swiss cheese memory. All the good… Continue

I know it's a long one, but please read. I need advise

So last month while I was in NY I decided to purchase a "lace wig" according to the website, this wig is different from a lace front wig although don't ask me how because I really don't know. Anyways, when they attached it (approximately 10 days ago) they told me that they were using the "sensitive skin" glue & tape and that with this combination the wig can stay on my head for up to 5 weeks. Of course I realize there are no guarentees in life, but I have quite a story for… Continue

Wigs

So...I was researching wigs online and I found a web site called wigs.com and it seems that they have a nice selection. I just don't understand the difference between synthetic and real hair wigs. I know I want a human hair wig so I can style and wash it like normal hair, but I don't know where to begin. If anyone has any suggestions or comments they would be really appreciated. Also, if anyone knows a good website that sells human hair wigs please let me know.

off-topic rant rant rant.

There was an email sent out at work today notifying employees/student assistants that the governor's statewide budget cuts may soon be affecting UCs.

As we learned in Sociology last year, college students are feeling pressured to take on more than they can handle in order to afford education. Working two jobs and attending school full-time is not an ideal situation for most, yet it is becoming more and more of a necessity in order to avoid the trap of loans and skyrocketing interest… Continue

Tired Tired Tired

It seems like my husband and I have just been so tired of all the crappiness in life and just given up on pretty much everything. I came up with a great idea this morning though and I think it will get us back on track. He seems pretty excited too. We're going to start a business together!! Yeah us. It will probably take a while to get it going, but it will be fun having something worth while to work on together, rather than just the usual work on nursing alone - go to work to support student… Continue

Ok...I'm gonna get addicted to buying new hairstyles! Help me decide on this one.

Ok time for your HONEST opinions. I've never had short hair in my life. What better time to try than now that I can have any hair I want! I'm thinking about this wig below. Be HONEST and tell me if you think I could pull off a sexy style like this. I've never had a sexy style before, so for me I just can't picture it. But I really wish I could pull off a look like this. I'm looking for a sassy "go out" hair style. :o)

And I'm thinking… Continue

Preparing myself

My hair is falling out. I am trying to wrap my brain around that. I, who have always had thick beautiful hair, may actually go bald. It's terrifying. My hair is my best physical feature. I really don't know if my already low self esteem can handle this.

So next weekend I'm going hat shopping. I always hated myself in hats. I'm looking for a baseball cap. Wind is not my friend. I need a cap to wear on weekends, to picnics and anything outside. I'm also going to try on other kinds of… Continue

A Little Random

So I figured out that German Blood is stronger than Alopeica. Even though I have had Totalis since I was one year old. I went last week for my first laser hair removal treatment. Even though I can not grow hair on my head arms or legs or even eyebrows. I sure can on my chin. And the fact that i am half black I cant shave it cause of theese stupid dark spots and bumps that develop. So after a year of research and dr appointments i went a had it done. So we shall see how it goes. I felt a little… Continue

rj was published!

My man (rj) has an article published in a new book entitle "Our Black Fathers - Brave, Bold & Beautiful". You can find a copy of the full article here.

This is not the first time he has been published, but I think this particular article is close to his heart because it concerns the rebuilding of his relationships with his 3 daughters.

More than me…

wig wonderings.

I feel like I spend a lot more time on my hair than anything else in the mornings when I'm getting ready because I'm trying to find a way to style my wig so it looks "natural." I can't just leave it down all of the time, California is too too warm for that! My variety of headbands is wide and I have a hat or two to use on those days I feel particularly lazy. Maybe there's a way I can learn to do a quick style to go...I have my makeup routine down to less than 5 minutes (thank you, Tyra Banks!)… Continue

New hair part 2

I said in my last blog i would keep posted of any developments and there are some - hopefully they will continue and i am finding it harder not to get excited as some hair has gone terminal and turned to my natural hair colour, and is getting longer and the patches of hair growth are getting larger still no sign of eyebrows or eyelashes so if i want them still have to draw them in. i couldnt beleive it this lunch time with a mirror and looking at the most hair i have had on my head in 4 years -… Continue

It IS a Small World After All

So since I'm moving out of state, I've been calling everyone and making plans to see people before I go. So I just called the mother of a girl I used to babysit for since she was an infant. She's now 14 and I've stayed close with her and her family. I hadn't spoken to them since like Christmas time, so this family is about the only people in the world I had not yet told about my Alopecia. So I made plans to go see them Sunday. Before hanging up I said (to the mother), "I should prepare you for… Continue

day off.

I finally have a day off from work today. And I still couldn't "sleep in!" I think my brain isn't used to having the luxury of sleeping in past 8 on a weekday. As enjoyable as my job can be, a day off is very much appreciated - especially for my poor eyes who endure my hours of staring at a computer screen, meticulously editing shots in Photoshop or lining up text on a page.

I was talking with my former roommate (and high school friend) last night about being part of that… Continue

It is done.

I couldn't wait any longer. The house was quiet, children and husband asleep. . . so i decided to shave my head. I'm glad I took the time to do it alone. It was little more difficult (emotionally) than I thought it would be. My main concern how my daughter will react when she wakes in the morning. I already told her i was going to do it and she was upset, mostly b/c she liked to play hair dresser with what was left me my hair :) Anyway, how liberating. With the last clump of hair inthe middle… Continue
