Just had to laugh!

My sweet daughter Braylyn was diagnosed with Alopecia this year. She is the captian of the Cheer squad and Captain of the volleyball team. Very athletic and out going. And believe me she has not let having alopcia stop her from doing anything. And for that I am very thankful. She had a great set of friends and after educating the school all has been great. We have not had not one person bit of negativity. Until today. Braylyn came home from the school and girl that she goes to school with…

An alopecian in the world: Opening my eyes

I've been busy; been in the world as an alopecian; a woman with alopecia. A woman who was laid off August 2008 when the law firm I worked at closed their doors, due to their own greed, but that's another story.

I felt lucky. I felt lucky because I felt relieved; no more worries that my spots would show; I was a clean slate, a bald head. I felt comfortable. I was most worried about my audience. I'm a musician, a singer/songwriter. I have presented myself with hair pretty much my whole…

Purchasing a new human hair wig

Does anyone have experience with wigsbuy.com? I have researched hundreds of sites looking for an affordable human hair wig and I am so confused as to which one is right for me.

Just wondering!

Is it bad of me to pray that my daughter get her eye lashes and eye brows back? Of course I would love for her to be able to regrow her scalp hair, I really just want her be able to do put on her make up in the morning without worry. She is 14 and I know she misses that part of her life.

This being said I haven't been able to sleep tonite thinking about the tragedy that happened in Conn. yesterday. I have 4 small grandchildren that mean everything to me and I can't imagine what the parents and grandparents are going through that lost their children yesterday. Losing my hair is not…

Other women's reaction to my alopecia

So a couple of women came along as visitors to my Toastmaster's meeting the second time in a row. At this meeting I was wearing a new wig and both of them commented on my new look...actually the style is pretty much the style I always wear but the colour was much darker...so I said matter of factly that I was wearing my new wig and explained I had alopecia. They both said they would never know it was a wig and that if I didn't tell anyone no one would know. Just then the meeting was called…

Second time around with alopecia totalis

I was first diagnosed with Alopecia areata in late 2010, with two nickel size patches of hairloss. It wasn't until March 2011 that all my hair fell out and I was then diagnosed with Alopecia totalis.

My hair started growing back early this year and was hoping to finally shed my wig for the first time in two years. But, the hair loss started again three weeks ago. So, now I am back where I started.

This time around is both harder and easier. I know what to expect as far as the hair…

Meteorologist Rhonda Lee: Was She Fired for Defending Her Hair?

By Lylah M. Alphonse, Senior Editor, Yahoo! Shine | Secrets to Your Success – 4 hours ago...

This isn't the first time meteorologist Rhonda Lee's short hair has affected her job, she says. (Photo: Facebo …When a viewer took meteorologist Rhonda A. Lee to task online for having short hair, rather than for any job-related issues, she defended herself. But instead of supporting Lee or even deleting…

Efforts rewarded

I have been doing a lot of outreach in the subject of Alopecia Awareness. Well not as much awareness as acceptance. Because that is the hard part. Awareness is easy compared to acceptance. Not only other people accepting your blatant difference but you the alopecian accepting what is happening to your body. Not hating the changes--because that will only poison you. You need the healing salve of acceptance (however reluctantly it may come) to help ease the pain of hairloss. Does that make…

Stay blessed

by Alyx Arnett

When Angenetta Whites’ hair began coming out in patches as a young girl, her mother’s first thought was ringworm—an infection of the skin that is readily treated and rarely progresses. However, doctors came back with a diagnosis much more unsettling—alopecia.

While several doctors explained to Whites’ mother what this autoimmune disease was that causes hair loss, Whites sat scared still in the waiting room, unaware of the torment that lay ahead of…

New here, questions, opinions please. :)

Hi There,

I joined a couple of months ago and have been kind of quietly checking things out but now feel comfortable to post here. Here's my story in a nutshell.

I noticed a small spot around my crown in April of this year and within 6 or 7 weeks it was about the size of a lemon(weird comparsion? lol). While I knew deep down it was AA as I was a hairstylist for a handful of years and know all about conditions of the scalp, I needed a disgnosis. Low and behold it was AA. I got…

Wierd week

So - it has been a weird week.

First - I have been thinking very hard about the awesome things associated with AU such as the fact that I never, ever have a bad hair day. I have also realized when you are bald people seem to think you are prettier than before - are their expectations of beauty less than when you had hair? Like it is so shocking that a bald woman can be attractive? Not sure. They should look at this website and see all the breath taking pictures of bald women! Also…

Another perspective

Just a thought to share with fellow Hairloss sufferers. I aiming this post mainly at those of you who are struggling to come to terms with your Hairloss. Maybe it's just happened suddenly... You're in shock, as expected. Maybe you lost your hair many years ago or it has progressively worsened as time has past and you simply cannot come to terms with your condition. Hairloss is so upsetting and knocks your confidence especially when you haven't got the answers... Why has this happened to me? How… Continue

Thinking about wearing wigs?

Wow purchased a 100% hand tied equal lace font unit. I have worn other lace front units over the last three four years which I've loved and received so many compliments. I used to have 'big hair' so I choose the 'big' hair styles of wigs, of course I've had to build up to big hair so not to arouse suspicion....Just tried and I am blown away buy the amazing look and feel of the unit. I'm delighted with how confident I feel wearing wigs. If your considering a wig certainly give it a go. I'm so… Continue

God can heal alopecia

A lot of people seem to think that God brings sickness upon people or He uses it as a punishment if you do something wrong but this is not the case. God LOVES us soooo much, He wants us to be healthy and well, and He wants to have a relationship with us and fellowship with us! it is satan who brings sickness upon people because his goal is to steal, kill and destroy (JOHN 10:10).The devil wants to take us out and he uses anything he can to do so including sickness. Alopecia and every other…
