Hi Everyone, I saw my new Dermatologist yesterday, I really liked her. She ordered a boat load of blood test, thyroid, ANA (autoimmune) CBC, the works, depending on the blood test results she may do a scalp biopsy.
Has anyone had one? If so what can I expect?
She also wrote out a RX for Betamethasone Valerate (the spell alert came on for that one, lol) lotion, twice a day.
If you have used this, how did it do for you?
I am getting to the point I'm really tired of trying…

I've been busy with getting my house in order for a party I'm throwing on the 18th of this month..
Last night, I was in a super Wal-mart taking back an unbella stand and as I was looking around.. I passed by this young boy who just happened to be bald and no eyelashes, eyebrows and he was just watching the tv screen that was showing the current cartoon dvd release..
I wasn't sure to approach him or not.. the don't talk to strangers thing.. maybe hes…

I went to the dermalologist yesterday to get more cortisone shots and he told me that my scalp was too thin and he could not do any more shots until my head heals. He said it would take it about 2 years to heal. He took a complete blood count and everything was good. Does anyone use clobetosol propionate gel, 0.05%? Will that also make my scalp thin and I dont know if I should continue to use it if my scalp is already too thin! I need help!

On July 7th I shaved my head. I waited until my husband and son left the house to go fishing and I did it. I dont know what made me finally decide to do it. I thought it was going to be very emotional for me but it wasnt. I didnt shed one tear. I didnt even feel sad. I actually felt relief and freedom. I was glad what was left was gone. I looked at my bald self and smiled. I bundled up my hair and told it "I loved you." I placed it under the bathroom sink. I just could not throw it away, I…

I found a lump in my breast on Friday night June 19th. I called my doctor the following Monday. They got me in that afternoon. I was then referred to a regional breast cancer center 30 minutes from where I live. I had to wait a week for my appointment. I had a mammogram and ultrasound done. Well, they found two lumps; one big and the other one small. The radiologist said they both looked like a fibroadenoma (just by looking at the ultrasound) which is a benign breast tumor. They did a core…

Hi everyone. Well I’ve been away from AW for a couple of months. Very business time of year and unfortunately the last few months have been pretty hard regarding the alopecia. It’s been 1 year since we first noticed the spots of hair missing on my son’s head. One year later and son has lost it all - hair, eyebrows, and now the eyelashes are going. He had a few stray hairs left that we finally shaved. He was ok with it until his official unveiling, taking his hat off in front of his baseball…

I'm almost 42 years old and noticed a very small patch of alopecia on my beard in September 2008. I never really thought anything of it at the time other than it was a bit odd. I don't have a heavy growth and never thought about growing a beard anyway. The patch slowly expanded and is still growing to this day. I did an internet search and tried Calosol beard cream which didn't help.
In January of 2009, my wife noticed another small patch on the back of my head (behind my right ear).…

Hey all i finally saw the dermatologist, who managed to identify the problem straight away.
I have been diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia. The dermatologist said my body isnt producing enough red blood cells and now is depriving my body of oxygen and it cant cope so has stopped growing my hair. They are doing further test to make sure my body hasnt shut down anything inside lol!!!
I was shocked when they diagnosed me with this, but she said with the treatment I have a 80% chance of my…

I went through those awful cortisone shots a few months ago. I had two rounds of injections done and also used a topical cream for about 2 weeks. The hair started growing back and just a few weeks ago I noticed that not only is the hair falling out again but the spot got bigger! I am so scared that it is going to be worse this time around. Do I get the injections again? Should I just leave it alone?

What if we got this so we COULD experiment with looks, love, acceptance and changes in ways others cannot? If so, then what is so strange about totally changing what hair texture, color, curliness, etc. we were born with to something totally unique, or to a dream style? What if we are the ones allowed to have fun with hair and not have to constantly get cuts, perms, etc.? What if we are the ones who can get out to work sooner by plopping a wig on? What if we can avoid the gray long after all…

Ive been up and down emotionally. My hair is still falling out although it is slowing some its still coming out everyday. I have 3 wigs and I got a few new scarves. I dont leave my house without something on my head usually a wig. Ive been wearing a wig to work for a bout 2 weeks now and Im getting sick of their question and comments about why I have a wig on. I just started dating this guy and he knows that I wear a wig, however he has no idea why. The last time we hung out I went without the…

Hi people, I apologies now for the huge vent!
well basically, it's like this...
I was in town today with my dad, walking around, no hat, no scarf.. it wasn't too sunny then so I thought it would be okay. Just walking through the car park and this mum with her little boy (I'd say about 6/7) in his school uniform walk by. Okay, thats normal...but. This annoying, obnoxious little boy decides to stop dead still, have a really good old gawp at me...and proper comedy cartoon style…

I recently moved out to Southern California from South Florida. I left my friends, family...comfort zone in the midst of a massive episode of AA. My husband took a job transfer out here. It's gotten exceptionally worse since I've arrived. I've been trying to obtain employment in a very bad economy and really feel that my self-esteem (or lack there of) has played a big role in not finding work.
My question is, at what point did you decide to shave it off and get a wig? Did you find it…

Hi y'all!
So here's my decision: I'm shaving my remaining hair off at the end of the summer and ordering a vacuum wig. And I'm actually really excited! YAY!
Here's the thing. When should I tell a guy that I'm wearing a wig and my head is shaved? Do I do it before we get into a relationship? On the first date? When I sense things are going somewhere between us? I'm currently flirting and kinda dating this one guy who I met relatively recently. He doesn't know about my hair…

Beautiful Ones,
This weekend while having drinks with Bass Man at Jimmy Maks in Portland, the topic of conversation rolled around to the impact of Alopecia on women. I mentioned that so many of my friends on this site had expressed concern about how men they meet will react to a woman having Alopecia and wearing wigs. He was surprised that women would fear rejection for this reason. He said that very few men would find that important enough to end a relationship or never start one.…

Hi everyone,
This is my first time blogging. I just want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards my daughter. I just want to retell a conversation we had earlier regarding her alopecia. Amanda is 7 and has had AA since she was 4. She is never frustrated or disappointed by it. She just knows it has been a part of her life for the past 3 yrs. Well she celebrated her birthday a few days ago and when it came down for her to make a wish before blowing out her candles she didnt wish…

I think we all have spoken about the times when despair enters our lives... the feeling of despair is like a cloud surrounding us and blurring the vision of ourselves. The cloud that descended this time is dense and seems not wanting to lift. I am a 54 year old women who recently went AU and who seemed to cope with her hair loss. This is the big one, the loss of my eyebrows and eyelashes, has completely turned my world sideways... Why is the loss of the things that in the past gave me so much…

I was scared but so many of you gave me the courage to go natural & I thank you so very much. Take a look it's on my photo's & let me know what you think. I also included pictures of our girls, our two Lab's Brooke & Kiki.
