Ok, I have a few questions for you guys.
How do you feel about bald women? If your girlfriend or wife was thinning, would you encourage her to shave her hair off if it to preserve her mental health or leave it and let nature run its course, or would you try to encourage her to find a solution? What do you love most about a woman (or YOUR woman, especially if she has some form of alopecia)? Do you think bald women can be as beautiful as women who have their own hair? What draws you to a…

I haven't been here much lately, just enough to check up on things. I'm officially single now, my ex moved out three days ago (finally after I helped him move) and my emotions are still a handbag of variety. About two weeks ago I had a little issue at work about the wig I was wearing in and I don't know if it's just me or the stress I've been having but I didn't like what people were saying. I had one old guy, a customer, tell me he liked my hair colour and asked if we had a stain to match so…

As some of you may know (or not) I have for the last three years been having an intergrated system, it cost an absolute fortune to get it done first off, then every 6 weeks thereafter i have to travel to London to have it re-adjusted again at quite a large cost, one that my family have been struggling to keep up with, which makes me feel very quilty each time.
So for the past year i have been toying with the idea of getting a Wig instead, a thought that i have been battling with as i…

My wife Mistie just left to go to work as she works the night shift at a local hospital here in Orlando Florida.
She has been making comments here and there about how much hair she is losing recently.
I for the most part pretend that I didn't hear what she said earlier tonight when while getting dressed she mentioned getting a wig because she cannot style her hair to make it hold. Other times I keep reassuring her that she is beautiful and her hair looks great. I can tell she…

HI everyone! My name is Renee. My daughter Juliana was diagnosed with AA in 09/07. She just started Kindergarten. She is such an inspiration in my life. She is so strong. But my question is would it be crazy to seek people willing to come to her school and talk to children and parents about AA to raise awareness? She is only 5, she is kind of aware of her situation and totally cool with it but I just want to make other children, parents and teachers aware. I got a paper sent home from the…

hi, friends...
there were several days passing,
i felt like "ill", but did not want to go to any doctor..
i "just" felt depressed, like something would`ve died inside me..
cannot explain it better.. but i was sitting-around at home, didn´t
want to see or hear anything from my so-called friends around..
i just sat there, or being "put" on my bed, listening to some music,
and felt like, i cannot express it exactly.. i did not want to do anything..
not-even…

It's 10:15am and I'm sat here debating with myself whether to get a shower because the amount of hair that comes out in the shower scares me. And it's annoying because the bar of soap gets covered in hair and then I have to pick it all off so that I can wash myself. No one knows how much hair comes out of my head. My Dad says it's coming out just as it always has done. Doesn't he realise how thin my hair looks? Can't he see there's not much hair at the back of my head? That Doctor is silly too.…

If I had a dollar for each time someone has told me that at least my son doesn't have cancer or some life-threating situation going on so "what's the big deal". They say, "gee he's a boy and the bald look is in so he'll be fine". I'm sorry but my 9 year old son is emotionally hurting and so am I. My son loved his hair. In fact, hair has been is security blanket since he was born. When he's wanting to relax he plays with my hair or even his own. I know that even if he gets his hair back (75%…

I found this postcard today, which spurred this blog post!
I'm new to AT. In May, I went for a routine hair cut and color, but this was anything but... For years, I've wanted to donate to Locks of Love. I've always had long hair, and I've never had the guts to cut it short. I was bored, and my hair was long enough, so I figured, what the heck, I'll donate it. So I did, and I left feeling WONDERFUL! I loved the short cut, and I was getting compliments left and…

My daughter, Rachel, is 10 and has had alopecia for about 10 months now. She is almost completely bald at this point. She does not wear a wig or any headcoverings though she has both. She has been dealing with this so incredibly well that she is an inspiration to all who know her. Today, however, after more than a month of keeping this to herself she told me that on the first day of school this year (which was the only time she has worn a wig to school), the kids were teasing each other and…

Sorry for the absence as of late. School + work + activities + sleep = not a lot of spare time.
They're doing tree trimming outside of my apartment this week. It's created such a mess and I hate ducking to avoid falling branches. It's even worse when stuff gets in my hair and I don't notice because I can't feel it!
The weather has been extremely hot down here. What ever happened to crisp, cool autumn weather?? I'm not a fan of this 80 / 90 degrees stuff. I'm anticipating…

Just a question to throw out there..... I saw Oprah yesterday and the were talking about hair transplants and how they have improved over the years. Does anyone know if they are ever used for AA? Can someone else donate hair for say a family member? Is it not effective because the patients immune system would attackor reject the hair if Alopecia is not in a remission? Thank You.

Thanks everyone who's been sending me comments and messages. I haven't forgotten about you I've just had to "back burner" alopecia world for a bit.
UPDATE
What's been going on in the life of Carmella? Hmmmm.... Well my kids started school which was a big adjustment for everyone and that went well. Then I started school and it was going really awesome, right until the third day. On the third day my landlady gave us thirty days to vacate the property. Now at first I thought…

I'm someone for whom self-esteem has always been a battle, even more now with AT. I'm someone who firmly believes in function over fashion, so wearing a wig all the time simply isn't my top priority. I have better things to worry about than if it's on right and such. I have been trying to wear my wig more, but I just have a tough time because to ME, it looks fake and weird. A few nights ago, my family and I went out to dinner at Outback, and as we went to "check in" the hostess asked me "How…

well, i am a tattoo person as you can see from my pics and i would like to get a new tatt to mark this period in my life. if it was breast cancer i would have a really cool pink ribbon drawn and that would be that tatt, but is there anything like that for alopecia? is there any kind of symbol? if not, any ideas would be great.

Damn the rainy season's over and I didn;t get even a
quarter of our yard debris burned.
Happened across some articles from Barbaro's
breakdown...how they said the sport couldn't be or simply
would not change for isolated events such as that one. It
took Eight Belles bittersweet drama to unfold before a
stunned nation's eyes to finally wake up the people who hold
the power to make things better. Synthetics are still new
and "unproven" (though I shall point…

I had a wig fitting today, an in-home consultation, what a tremendous relief it is to try on wigs in the comfort of your own home. I must have tried on about 10 wigs-synthetic and human hair wigs-none of them felt right. So the stylist offered to come back again tomorrow with one she thought I would like...so I agreed. I'm hoping she's right. I can't stand this anymore. I practically don't have any hair left and have been wearing hats all the time. I just want to get this over with and find a…
