stupid people

Well last night I had to deal with my first stupid person. I went to the neighborhood pub last night with a couple of friend who have know me forever. Well Ive been in this bar a couple of time since Ive got my wig and mostly everybody knew about it and noone really cares. I live in a little county where everyone knows everyone and if you dont, you know someone who knows everyone. Well there was this old guy there who asked me if I was dying of cancer and I had to ask him why he thought that.… Continue

My new freedom hair

This is one of the first photos of my new freedom wig. It's going to take a bit of getting used to but it's very like what my hair used to be, especially the colour. The hair feels absolutely lovely :)

I've got to have some more practice styling it though, when I washed it for the first time it dried a bit fuzzy so I had to straighten it (very like my own hair, actually!). It's also taking a bit of time for me to learn how to put it… Continue

A Tribute to My Father

My father Rodolfo Leal passed away almost 2 moths ago; even now that I try to write this some tears come out of my eyes; I loved (and still loving) him so much, he teaches me about courage, love, hardwork, in a few words, how to be a Man...

When I was managing with the darkest sequel of my Alopecia Universalis, short after I finished theUniversity; he stand side-by-side, he wasn't a friendly-like father but more a father-like-father; but always try to search correct words to confort… Continue

Experience with wigs?

If you didn't check it out already, I posted a forum discussion on wigs. If you have any experience with wigs whatsoever, please please check out the discussion and leave your wisdom for those of us that are clueless. :) So so so much appreciated.

If the link below doesn't work (I'm not too technically savvy) then please just go check it out in the forum in the wigs category.

The only constant is change

A calendar hangs on the fridge for the family’s activities. A new pencil was hung at its’ side earlier this year in anticipation of the inevitable frenzy of the approaching summer. A selection of colored pens were gathered and placed into a nearby drawer. Out of quick reach, the pens are intended for events such as birthdays, holidays, graduations and the like whose important dates are set in stone.

The pencil is used for everything else as the only constant in life these days is… Continue

Bald Girls Do Dinner In San Francisco

Hey Everyone!

I just got back from a wonderful dinner and met 5 amazing, beautiful, bold, bald women. It was a great opportunity to meet Thea Chassin, founder of baldgirlsdolunch.org and listen to these other women's stories and be able to relate to them, and not feel like I'm alone dealing with AT.

All 5 had AU, one wasn't ready to go "Au Natural" in public but the other 3 in our group were, and quite okay in their skin. It made me hope that someday I can be that… Continue

How do you get a closer shave?

I have (had?) dark hair and very light skin.

My AA patches are many and they are big, so I've taken to shaving my head, but I don't like the look of dark stubble in the places where I do have hair?

Are there tricks to getting a closer shave?

I tried nair once, but ended up with an icky rash, I guess my skin was too sensitive.

Help?

More encouraging registry information...

Hi guys, if you've read all these posts, you know that there has been some discussion about the purpose of the National Alopecia Areata Registry and how our information and blood samples will be used. I went back and read more carefully myself on the MD Anderson site.

My purpose in posting this particular blog is not to cause a reaction or upset anyone who may disagree with what I am writing. I just feel that there is signifcant reason to believe that the registry will be doing…

Like an Orchid..........

My beau likes to give me an orchid on special occasions (I love their delicate beauty, graceful stems, leatherly leaves and beautiful blooms), and over the years I've tried many times unsuccessfully to get a second round of flowers out of them :-(

I had set a side one tired, neglected faded orchid on the landing in our back hallway and had pretty much forgotten about it. Its one leaf was shriveling and the last stem was leaning terribly. I figured it was time to ditch it, I even… Continue

Self Confidence

I don't know why a bunch of clip on extensions make me feel more confident than I have in a good 5 years. 5 years ago I was pregnant with my 1st daughter. 30-35 LBS. can make someone feel ugly. Then lost some hair, got pregnant again, lost some more hair ,got pregnant again, lost some more hair. This is the longest I have gone without being pregnant. I'm trying to watch what I eat as best as I can. I started working out everyday about 5 months… Continue

Missing my eyelashes

I guess I'm having a reaaaally bad week, I'm missing my eyelashes more than ever. I got a new full lace wig (I call it my hair by the way, hate the word wig) recently and I love it , so i don"t really care about being bald. Got my eyebrows tattoed and I like them so that is OK. But my eyelashes can't be replaced...I don't wear the fake ones unless going to a party or something like that but even when I do, it's just not the same ...Lost my eyelashes 6 months ago and I wonder if they will ever… Continue

The results are in

The doctor’s office called yesterday with the results from last week’s blood test. Nothing remarkable. I’m relieved, yet disappointed, as I was hoping for a treatable cause along the lines of a fungal infection. Amazing that one would wish for a fungal infection. All things considered, the alternatives could have been much worse than a dx including the term idiopathic – that’s Latin for unknown origin…medical speak for they don’t have a clue.

They offered a referral to a… Continue

Different Types of Alopecia

First of all, I want to say that everyone on this site is such a wonderful and beautiful person both inside and out.

So folks, I am not totally bald (I know I need a picture, but my husband hates taking them and I hate asking). I guess I have felt that having really thin hair on top is both a curse and a blessing all the same. I mean since I have eyelashes and eyebrows I am not as susceptible to illness, but also people still question me about why I wear a wig and what kind of… Continue
