Gosh, sometimes I get so sick of wigs, I live in a really small town, it's pretty obvious I wear a wig.
It's even worse when the "children" here think its funny to pull it off in public *twitch*.
I'm sixteen, I know it sounds immature but I really dislike people who make fun.
Tease, pull and jerk off my wig, call me baldy etc.
And decent wigs are so expensive...
I looked into a vacuum wig that wouldn't come off when someone pulled it.
4100$,
good…

since my unpleasant incedent on sunday with my little sister seeing my new short wig...and totally freaking out....we still haven't made communication. we usually talk every morning or at least once a day. we are both stubborn scorpios and i have cooled down conciderably after being told i look like Farrah Fawcett on chemo. now gosh darn...what if i took off the wig and showed her the barren plains of my cranium????? I'd have to have 911 on speed dial cause for surely she would have a stroke…

I'm kinda glad that I'm not alone in this and at the same time sad that we're in this too. I used to feel all alone, but since I've found this site I'm swimming in a veritable sea of bald heads. ;)
Hey, we're not bald, we're follically challenged. :D

I feel so compelled to write this message to all of you bald women who choose to wear wigs. I don't mean to be controversial or engage in debate because aren't we all one family, one community of support? We are ALL in the same boat. First, to you ladies who go bald in public, I appreciate and thank you for being true to what you think is right for you. Because isn't that REALLY what it's about - To Thine Own Self Be True.
But that said, shouldn't we all be accepting each other for…

Well... I have posted a side view of my very first wig. As you can see, the wig is VERY similar to my bio hair style. After much consideration and convincing, I realized this was a good stepping stone. As much as I really wanted longer hair, this is a good intro for people, clients and family to the new me. I have had it for 4 days now, wearing it everyday and LOVE IT!!! I have gotten so many compliments. Some people at work "know" it's a wig and still love it, some people just think I've…

Maybe it's just me, but as of late, there is a lot of negativity amongst board members. A lot of it seems geared towards treatments/ and or lack there of. The longer I am on the board, I can pretty much tell who is going to respond to what, and in what type of manner. For example there's a few members, who whenever a new treatment someone has tried comes out, are quick to ask a million questions about the treatment, and then chop them down and refute their reasoning for starting the treatment.…

I know the sweetest nine year old girl on this planet (in my opinion)
One of the most unspoiled children I've ever seen in my life.
she's absolutely beautiful, but she has to wear wigs because of Alopecia Areata, Her mom was telling me about how she came home crying from school one day because the children took off her wig on the bus and were running around hiding it from her.
She actually had to go back up to he school, to get the wig back from lost and…

I don't usually blog, but I need to vent...so here I go:
I've had Alopecia for as long as I can remember. My entire life I've dealt with the stares and double takes, just like everyone else. For the most part, it didn't bother me...at all. I would brush it off and not take any notice to it anymore. Walking through the mall or anywhere else, I expected people to look, so I almost stopped realizing when this happened. Why then, is it starting to bother me all of a sudden? It doesn't…

There is so much advertising for wigs on this site that I inquired at Peggy Knight Solutions about wig costs. They emailed me back saying, "Pricing for our prostheses starts out at $2,500.00." Is it just me, or does that seem a bit high? The last wig I bought was from Paula Young. It's a human hair wig with a mono front; and I only paid about $60 for it (on sale from $189). It actually looks quite good, especially since I tweaked the colour by dyeing it to something more suitable for me. The…

The last time I had a really close BFF was back when I was twelve years old (just before AU took over my life). I miss having a good friend so much.
The problem is this:
I have issues...issues that people don't understand. Issues that I can't just "Get over". Some days are fine...but other days - especially a BWD (bad wig day) -- oh God!! Those days I could just build a cave under my blanket and hibernate for the whole season.
The phone rings, and instead of…

Im wondering about getting alopecia later in life, i had just turned 30 when i found my first patch and I read a lot how people have had it most of there lives.
I would like to talk to anyone who has got it later in life and has had positive results with the hair growing back. (hey, I can live in hope that my hair will grow back and not fall out again!).
So, were you older when you got alopecia, I would love to chat.

I joined up here less than a week ago and have been blessed to get to know that there are so many wonderful people out there who belong to our "hidden society" who can give me some comfort, some ideas, some advice....because up until last week, I have felt so totally alone, scared, embarrassed, and sad, not really having anyone to confide in who really understands what I am going through. I only wish that I can also contribute the same to all of you in the future. Thankyou. bk

Has anyone heard of this treatment before?

Another member here told me about it and said it is making his hair grow.

On 15th May 2009, it was exactly the day two years ago when I reached the United States the for first time by boarding a plane with a flight ticket bought by a person (including her wonderful friends & family) that at the end proclaimed that it was a gift from God to her.
Eversince, this question of thought was raised in me "What did I do to deserve such kind and generous treatment?", its been years when I started pondering deeply on the question. I thought from the east to the…

came to my little sister's house (49 yrs. old, not so little) to of course, do my bushy haired niece's hair.....i was wearing a new wig....much shorter and spikey, got good feedback at work and from friends. Upon seeing my new "do"...my sister gasped and put on such a theatrical scene of how she hated it and i looked like Farrah Fawcett on chemo.....she kept on telling me that she couldnt look at me and to get away from her......I couldn't believe how she carried on, i still had to stay and do…

Well, it's been almost 2 months now since my mom had her stoke, and all I can say is GOD IS GOOD! She came home on 4/29/09 with a walker and a leg brace, and while she has been cooperating with her physical therapy, she has also been chomping at the bit to jump back into her normal routine. She finally got tired of waiting for someone to take her everywhere she wanted to go on Wednesday, so to prove the point, she got a step ladder and her walker and politely climbed into her 15-passenger van…

I'm struggling with Trichotillomania,
I don't mind wearing wigs, i'm used to it... but I'm so tired of having to shave my head.
I'm still a teenager, and people are very cruel about these things, Ripping off my wigs in public... I'm not ashamed that I'm bald, but I often find myself lying about my actual condition out of fear that they will think i'm crazy for pulling my own hair out...
I'm starting to feel that way myself, It's gotten so bad, I had to shave my head again…

I have a pattern for a very cute cap know as a wiggie. It's very cute and really soft and comfortable to wear. You just use fun fur in any colour of your liking. I made a nice one in copper for around the house (my head gets chilly in the winter), and if you combine the fun fur with a satin yarn of similar shade (and make it longer for a fold up brim) you have a lovely fuzzy, soft and warm hat for the winter.
Here's a pic of a wiggie:…
