So, my brother is getting married next weekend. It'll be outside.....by the beach....probably windy.....*sigh*
Caved in and went to the salon to get some highlights and a cut. My hair lady chose 2 different highlights to use: blond and brown. I'm a strawberry blond.....
I'm pleased that using 2 different shades has given more texture to my hair so as to better conceal the "crisis" I've been dealing with on my head. I hope that it won't be too windy since a lot of pictures…

I'm not having a good day. My eyebrows are almost all the way gone and my eyelashes are going too. I started losing eyelashes yesterday and by today, there are patches left. Ugh! I don't even look like me anymore

I have had Alopecia Areata since I was four years old and have done everything I can think of to hide it from others. I would often times style my hair put on so much hair spray to keep in place.. making sure that no one can see my spots. It worked when I was younger but as I got older the spots got bigger and were not growing anything. I got my first wig when I was 15 and it was really hard to except, but once again I did everything I could to ensure my secret was kept. Only family and close…

But we know, of course, that lookism and other forms of appearance-based discrimination is no joke. Therefore, how do you think you can take a stand against the scourge?

Hello,
I've been thinking about the years I've worn wigs, hairpieces and after reading some of the blogs and pages here, I thought it would be a good idea to share my knowledge, advice, skills, etc with you all. Below are some of the sites I've shopped at and still shop at when needed. Also, I've rated them, please add your sites and advice. I think this would be helpful to those newly diagnosed who…

Ok where do I start...Everyone who has children knows what it is like to love them so much it hurts and just to think of some one hurting them can tear your heart out of your chest. That is how I feel for all three of my kids, but my daughter has a special place in my heart, she has the condition called Alopecia Areata Universal. She lives a normal life like every other kid out there, she just doesnt have hair. My worst fear is her being made fun of and how she is going to handle it. Last night…

I was initially going to keep alopecia a secret from everyone I worked with but it's been slowly seeping out. I was walking home from work one day and it was soooo hot out that halfway home I ripped the wig off. Although I know I shouldn't, I tucked my wig away in my purse on the side of a busy street. Shortly afterwards I ran into a woman I work with and didn't realize she wouldn't recognize me but I said hi anyways and kept walking. About five steps beyond her she turned and out came…

My head has been itchy, basically since all this this began a few weeks ago. Oh man, has it been itchy!! But a few days ago, my head started to feel achy. Its only on the right side of my head. I am missing a big patch on the right side. I was just wondering if this is normal, or if it is something I should go back to the doctor early? I have an appointment on the 16th, to talk about the topical temovate treatment (which is NOT working). Am I okay to wait to go back to see him, or should I go…

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a nice Labor Day Weekend.
I cant decide what to do with my white fuzzies.
To shave or not to shave. They dont look bad and I actually had someone tell me they thought I did the Platnum Thing. So 1990 something......Was it a backhanded compliment or a Queenie remark? With my friends probably both.
The white/transparent hair is about 40-50% of what used to be on my head with no patches. Since the begining of the year I have…

Being Bald is Wonderful, I don't know how I survived this long without shaving my head. I've learned so much about myself and others, especially as it relates to Baldness. Here's a list of a few of the amazing things I've learned about being Bald:
1. Alway use a multi-blade shaver (three blades or more) to shave your head, not only are they great for a smooth shave, but they will not nick and cut you like the single or double bladed cheapies. I learned this the hard way, I was scheduled to…

I shared this with the Men Who Don't Mind group and thought it might do some good to share it with the rest of Alopecia World as well. Of course, I'd love to know how you feel about these matters.
It's one thing for me or anyone else to accept the fact that alopecians -- or anyone else, for that matter -- may feel the way they do about something, but it's quite another thing altogether for someone to express…

Hi, hello, hey, etc.
If I haven't replied your comments lately, I'm sorry! I've been busy traveling and visiting with people I haven't seen in awhile. Being home sure has a different feel to it!
Today was the big day! I got my new wig from Miss Peggy Tom and it's pretty! An extra plus: The new wig doesn't require wig tape to hold in place, which is a major thumbs up. And there were no Top Model makeover tears from me today as Miss Peggy shaved my head. It was actually an…

Well, so much for Della getting through the first few days with no complications. Yesterday during recess a little boy took Della's hat and glasses and threw them on the ground. Then, when Della tried to get them back, he grabbed them and ran off. Even though my twins are in different classes, Angel chased him and tried to get them back for her. I guess even some of the girls that she plays with tried to get them back as well. This is all new to her so she didn't know what to do. When the bell…

Okay, I stopped shedding for almost 3 weeks but I started shedding heavily recently. I thought that maybe the Rogaine I was using had helped so I started back but now I am shedding again. Maybe it is a result of when I stopped recently or starting back the Rogaine. When I first started using it I seemed to shed alot heavier. So maybe this will take a little time. My scalp and body has been also itching like crazy lately that is when I noticed the shedding coming back. I wonder if it is related.…
