I am not doing well at all. I woke up an hour ago because of my RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), my legs twitching and moving. I can't sleep, & I am so exhausted. My nerves have felt like they are crawling all over me! I have been on medications for depression, anxiety, & panic disorder for some 16 years. I can't remember the last time I felt good. Started out a month ago with allergies to a cat, & the anxiety of helping out a young
lady that ended up living in my home with her…

Okay. I tried it. I went to poetry potluck/reading today with safe church people at a private home and, fortified with Bravery Juice, read my 10-stanza poem (which I wrote during the church service...shhh) about coming out with my bald head. I took the wig off at stanza #5. Applause came at the end, but, surprisingly, there were no questions from the uninformed few about what condition I even HAVE! I kept the wig off, and the rest of the readings just went on with no hoopla.…

So it's been about 3 months since I first noticed my daughter's hair coming out/thinning. Her pony tail is getting higher and higher. It now begins about 4" above the nape of her neck and about 2" above her ears on both sides. Dr. said it is probably good that she wears a pony tail and a hair band every day or she'd probably be pulling from the top of her head too. Right now if she wears her hair down you can't really tell that there's hair missing. I think trich is so interesting...the pulling…

so since having my baby eric who is now 3 months old! my hair has been growing really well. i shaved it a few times to get it to grow in more evenly. i probably should have just left it.
i am now taking silica and some vitamins that were on that show today tonight just to see if that makes it grow better or helps it to grow.
i'm wanting it to all come back or not at all. i find it easy to wear a wig. i have never had so much hope before though. it has never grown back even…

WOW!! What a blessing! My first meeting was today, and it was amazing! I got to meet lots of new friends, and there were Alopecians there from children to adults. Our guest speaker was Tracey Casey-Arnold, an Alopecian for 36 years, since the age of 6, who has her own business called Whatever It Takes. She recommended a book to us called
3 seconds, and spoke of how it takes 3 seconds to fuel your passion. We need to all find what our great passion is, and to embrace it! We can all change…

I have always been and always will be that person who has never fit in or found my place in life. I have always felt like a outsider no matter where I am. Never felt comfortable in my own skin. I had a BAD day today and have been crying off and on for several hours, for once I wasn't crying becasue I have AA. But I know I can come to Alopecia World and no one cares that I am a size 14 and most of all no one cares if I have bald spots. Thank you for being here when I need a shoulder to cry on.

I wanted to share with my AW family my day today.
Today I went swimming at the leisure center for the first in 10 years !! (ever since my alopecia made me very self conscience) As I was walking into the change rooms I could feel the anxiety rising up and as I was making my way thru the showers to the pool area the anxiety was cresting high. But as I entered the water I started to calm down. The pool was very quiet, mostly seniors, as it was the middle of the afternoon. I let the water wash…

Children Learn What They Live
By Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.
If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame,… Continue

I recently posted a photo of myself without a hairpiece on my FACEBOOK! The Caption read as follows:
"I am tired of hiding. Some of you know this, some don't... I have Alopecia Universalis. An autoimmune disease involving rapid loss of all hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes. It is the most severe form of alopecia areata, with an incidence of .001% (1 in 100,000). Alopecia Universalis may be acute and short-lived or remain permanently. There is no known cause or cure. I have had this…

Ants Never Cry "Uncle"

He never says, "I can't."
And so it comes as no surprise,
He carries things ten times his size.

Hi Alopecians!
This is my second attempt at writing this blog...somehow the original was closed out, so I'm typing this up in WordPad, then I will copy and paste it into the Blog Entry space for Alopecia World.
I am curious to know if any of you have considered the position of the body, especially during sleep, as a chief cause of Alopecia.
What do you think?
This time instead of forming my opinions, I will allow you to respond to that question…

Okay, on Laura's discussion "Is it time to shave?", Mary said this:
"I finally realized that I had a choice between suffering physically (being miserable and hot) or suffering emotionally/mentally (people staring, not able to be anonymous)."
I immediately keyed in on
"suffering emotionally/mentally (people staring, not able to be anonymous)" because I was having this EXACT argument with myself last week. (Yes, I do argue with myself. I've been told that as…

It's Fine Today
Poet: By Douglas Malloch
Sure, this world is full of trouble-
I ain't said it ain't.
Lord, I've had enough and double
Reason for complaint;
Rain and storm have come to fret me,
Skies are often gray;
Thorns and brambles have beset me
On the road - but say,
Ain't it fine today?
What's the use of always weepin',
Making trouble last?
What's the use of always keepin'
Thinkin' of the past?
Each must… Continue

I forgot to mention this.. but at my high school graduation I didn't wear my grad cap. Everyone had to bobby-pin theirs to their hair and my principal told me to hold mine on my head. I laughed and walked across the stage without it on. I held it in my hand. First person in the history of Riverview High School to do it!

I used to wear false eyelashes everyday, but once I got my Semi Permanent Make Up (eyebrows and eyeliner) I was a lot more confident and felt I did not need to wear them anymore. After a break from wearing them I could not get back into the habit of fiddling about with them again every morning. So when I found out that some people attached their eyelashes with a strong glue that lasts an entire week I just had to give it a try!
From my years of practice before I started I made sure I…
