Because I Have Alopecia, Something Wonderful Happened

After all the anger and tears and depression that I've come through to be where I am, something amazing and positive happened as a direct result of my losing all my hair!

I have a friend who is battling cancer, and she's having a very tough time physically and emotionally. She's undergoing chemo, and recently lost her beautiful hair. I had given her several of my Turkish scarves, but today when I called her, she started crying and asked me if I have a wig she could borrow. She's lost… Continue

Two Foot Teen - A Touching Story

I watched a really touching story last night regarding a teenage girl of 16 who lives in Najpur, India. Joyti Amge suffers from a condition similar to a Dwarf syndrome. She was born weighing only 3 pounds and now at the age of 16 she is only a mere 9 pounds and is 23 inches tall.

What touched me the most about the story is that Joyti is such a happy girl. She smiles and laughs alot. She has a positive attitude towards life. She mentions that at the age of 3 she knew that she was… Continue

***update****

After getting Alieena out of the bath last night, I started to dry her hair and to my surprise on the top of her head to the side along the biggest patch edge, there is new hair growing, and as well as on the big patch on the side behind her ear. I dont know if its the spray we are useing or what but I will get the name of it tonight and post it for everyone along with a picture of the regrowth. Yes I am probably over excited and I know that it might not grow back in that it might just fall out… Continue

Interesting to read others feel the same as me. Really miss eyelashes and brows, and haven't yet come to accept "bald is beautiful"! Don't like being bald but my wig (a quality number) feels too hairy! However, rest of body can stay bald forever, love that. Hair started falling out after stressful incident, and happened very quickly. Anyone else lost their hair to stress/shock that they can pinpoint? Continue

"Fierce" hair and a 1967 Mustang...

I confess to the ultimate wig addiction: Afer spending oodles on expensive pieces, I have found reckless abandon in cheap, human hair, fashion wigs (I'm talking as little as $50 - $60). I'm having to make space in my closet!

A typical fashion wig scenario --

A couple of nights ago, I wanted to pull off an edgy, sexy persona when I dropped in on Bass Man. I donned tight jeans; killer black pumps; hip shades; and a new, trendy, dark, "fierce" wig (as Christian Siriano would… Continue

THE PURPOSE OF YOUR LIFE

At times we wonder, what is the purpose of our lives?
Why are we all here? What should our life achieve?
Why few people are referred as 'Great'?
Who told them their purpose of Life?

Then we try to search the purpose of our existence.
And in some time, we give up. We tell ourselves, "I'm here just to Live!"

No human is ever born with an objective.
One needs to define the purpose of his life.

On the alopecia road again

On the alopecia road again or so it appears. Three months of letting my hair grow back were…different. Seems folks were more at home offering comments once I was approaching what they considered ‘normal’. Questions such as “are you better?” became common place and were, for the most part, ignored. On the upside, one lady commented that I looked ‘sexier’ without hair. OK, so it’s been a number of years since a woman offered such a generous appraisal of my appearance so I figure that I’ve earned… Continue

HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE

I received an email from my mum this morning and after reading it I knew I had to share it with all of you.

The Wise Old Man

A man of 92 years, short, very well-presented, who takes great care in his appearance, is moving into an old people's home today.

His wife of 70 has recently died, and he is obliged to leave his home.

After waiting several hours in the retirement home lobby, he gently smiles as he is told his room is… Continue

Anyone have burning sensation prior to AA noticement? Histiocytosis sufferers?

One night I remember waking up with a burning, like a lit cigar held to my head, a few days prior to noticing my first spot, at age 29! Has this happened to anyone else? Maternal grandmother lost all her hair at 14, in the late 1930's. Figured heredity. Since then, I have been diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. Alopecia can occur from LCH of the scalp, however I was never tested. Wondering if it could have been heredity, LCH, or maybe a centipede bite! Remember waking up with a… Continue

I'm Grumpy Today.

Today my boyfriend warned me that he could see a spot. He knows how I obsess over each new spot and he also knows that if anyone but him pointed out a spot to me I'd probably brake down. I've been dealing with some other health issues so my defenses are way down.

Every since I was diagnosed I've been losing hand fulls of hair in the shower. I've taken to washing my hair less with the idea that out of sight is out of mind but the other day a CHUNK fell out. I felt hope die a little. I know… Continue

Has this happened to anyone else?

Wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else! Had 2 bald spots since Dec, then a third one started.Hair is starting to grow back.Had 1 set of kenalog shots and have been going for acupuncture. All seemed good for the last month. NO hair falling out! The other day I ran my hand through the back of my hair and noticed hair falling out. Then the God almighty terrible feeling came rushing back. Got out the dreaded mirror and sure as I thought another new spot, about the size of a fifty cent… Continue

Introduction

Hi there, I am Christine. I have had alopecia since 1998- my hairdresser noticed a small bald patch behind my right ear.In 3 years it progressed to me being fully bald on my head, and a couple small patches on my arms and legs. When I had lost most of my hair, all but a thin patch, my parents decided to buy a wig for me for Christmas that year. It was amazing how much it helped. It wasnt anything fancy, just a $35 wig from a local wig shop run by an Asian lady. She helped us pick it out, said… Continue

Performed bald for the first time last night!

I'm a drummer with a couple of Balkan bands and since losing my hair, I've worn one of my Turkish scarves while performing (as shown on YouTube videos - search for "Dromia stoynoff"). Though I've gone folk dancing bald, I've never gotten up on a stage and performed without my scarf since I lost my hair. I just haven't been ready to be up in front of people on a stage, bald.

Last night I did it! It was warm, and I was working hard drumming with some visiting musicians, so I took off… Continue
