7 months post-gluten

So it's been around 7 months since I went gluten free and I couldn't be happier. I even quit wearing my wig a couple weeks ago. My hair is still thin, but I've always had naturally thin hair anyway. My one eye without the eyelashes has yet to grow back, oh well. I'm just happy it's come this far. My dermatologist seemed really excited for me back in October, I can't wait to see what he has to say here in a couple weeks. I did upload some before and after pics but am not sure if only friends can… Continue

2.5 yrs AU

Hey everyone, I was just thinking about life and alopecia. I was recently diagnosed with Asthma. I had my first attack in late Nov. I had to go to the ER twice since then. It was the scariest thing I have ever gone through...not being able to breathe. It's still scary.

Anyways, it reminded me of when I first got AU 2 1/2 yrs ago. I was so scared then too. Well, as far as I'm concerned, I'de take AU over Asthma ANY DAY . I WISH AU was my biggest problem. When it comes to life or death, we… Continue

My scalp burns where my hair is falling out :0(

Alopecia became a part of my life this Christmas. As my hair continues to fall out, the bare scalp is burning. Anyone experience this and have any suggestions to make this more comfortable. I have been very good about protecting my scalp with the harsh new england weather. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Heather

It's been a while since we blogged last, so I thought that I'd give a bit of an update!

This is some new information on my Granddaughther, Merari, she is learning how to play the piano/organ and she is doing good...overall she is coping fine with the Alopecia issue..but right now our concern is that the Organization who gave her a free wig, no longer will be able to give her a new free one....the one that she got is kind of old and she needs urgently a new one...can afford to pay for one...any advice will really be appreciated....
Thanks
a worried Grandma

Happy New Year

Perhaps a year to re-think how we think of ourselves with ALOPECIA..... not losing hair.... just GAINING FACE....

I want to share with you that I am grateful (possibly a strange choice of words for some of you) for the fact that I have alopecia.. it's really made me see what's important in my life..... I am a MUCH better person for this experience, despite the tough times (hardly any these days) in the last 9 years I can honestly say ALOPECIA has made me a much more caring person...… Continue

My very first blog - advice would be appreciated

Well, this is the first time I have written a blog on here, but I figure it's a good way of getting things off my chest.

I first noticed a tiny bald patch about the size of a penny on the top of my head back in August and I started to panic. I went to the doctor and chatted with friends and they all told me not to worry as it was most likely stress. This made me feel a lot better. I was travelling to Canada for 7 weeks 2 days later for work, so I went and put the bald patch out of my… Continue

Thymuskin

My mum is constantly looking for something that doesn't have any harmful side-effects that might be able to help get rid of my alopecia, and she recently came across thymuskin. Apparently it helps the thymus in someway (lost the piece of paper but will look for it lol) by providing nutrients and helping create antibodies that the body needs. It says it can take 9-12 months to work so I am going to try it for my mum because it can't hurt and it smells like vanilla! So I will post some pics on my… Continue

It's been too long

Alot has changed for me in the past little while. When i first started on this site I was dealing with alot of emotions linked to my alopecia. I was debating on whether or not to go talk to a therapist and i finally did. I had a couple of appointments but found that talking to her didnt really help much (to each their own right) but I did it for my mom. I actually found writting in a journal helped alot more then anything, it was almost like taking all of it out of my soul and leaving it on the… Continue

New Year Hopefulness

It's been a while since we blogged last, so I thought that I'd give a bit of an update.

Nathan is still progessing really well. I thought that perhaps we'd hit a point and it would all catch up with him, but for now at least that doesn't seem to be the case.

Most of the time he just doesn't bother about hat or bandana, and at Christmas, he actually asked for me to come in cause he wanted to show his cousins and I think needed the reassurance in case they asked questions.… Continue

Why can't we?

Hi All,

I have been thinking about all of the lack of research/treatments/cures for our disease. There are so many great people on this site. Why can't we start something that raises money devoted to find a cure? I know two people who have a child with a condition (not alopecia and fatal unfortunately) that have devoted so much time and effort into raising money for a cure....and both work full time. I was just thinking if we really put some thought into this, could we make a difference? I… Continue

Convention?

So it has been brought to my attention that there is a alopecia convention in Indianapolis this year, can some one give me any details on this event? I don't live in Indy, but it is my hometown and I would love to attend.

New Year, New Me!

So tonight was my night! I'd planned to shave, but at the last minute, clippers in hand, I went short buzz instead. Still I feel liberated, and I know I'll not have to deal with those long hairs all over the place that are still shedding so severely! I did find a few more bald spots in this process, which was a little disheartening, but I know it's all part of the AA process, so I didn't grieve over them, just looked then moved on. I might go all the way bald quite soon, but for now, the super… Continue

A new year and the end of a decade

Year 2000 i graduated high school and this coming year i start college lol a little late but ohwell :O) the emotional rollercoaster i have gone thru over hair is amazing but i have found this site and it helps knowing i'm not the only one.

Post pregnancy - and it looks like my hair is going to fall out again! I can't stop crying!

I was AA universalis. When I got pregnant, my hair regrew around the 23rd week of my pregnancy. My daughter is 5 and a half months old now and I can go without a wig.

I look horrible though. My hair is still very short, darker than it used to be and not as blond anymore. On addition to that I'm still so overweight due to my pregnancy. Nevertheless I totally enjoy not to put these aweful plastic wigs on and I've been without a wig now for 3 weeks. Now I'm realizing that my eyelashes… Continue

Dermatologist Results

So... I went to the Dermatologist for a checkup.

Nothing New. The cortizone shots caused a crop circle in the back of my head though. It looks like a smiley face. I only have to go back if I have any questions, or if I just want to say hello.

It's weird, but I have spots in the back of my head, with little tufts of hair here and there. I asked my mom if I could shave them off, but she laughed and said no. Ho-hum. The hair is really dumb though.

I cant wait for another… Continue

Round 2 is harder than expected

And it seems to be Round 2 of Alopecia. It seems harder this time than the first time around. Everyone keeps saying that it is easy this time because I know what to expect and I already have wigs. But, for some reason, I'm having a harder time with it and don't feel like I can tell anyone that I am having a harder time. Is that stupid?

Well, heres where I stand as of now. I started noticing it coming out in the shower about a week and a half ago....…

My new wig

On Tuesday Pick Me Up magazine paid for me to go to London to have a wig chosen and then cut by Trevor Sorbie (who does loads of great things for people with hairloss). I chose a human hair wig from Trendco very close to my natural colour and then he cut it after looking at a pic of my old hair and I love it. This wig is amazing. Not only is it cut really well but its actually real hair. I loved my synthetic wigs but then I got this one and its sounds silly but I love the way it goes wavy in… Continue
