I don't really enjoy using the the wig. I find that it uncomfortable. I always feel like it going to fall off or someone's going to pull it off. I used to be able to not wear a wig because I had enough hair to cover but now it can be noticed. So I am considering shaving off what's left and just being natural. My mother thinks i should invest in a different type of wig that will fit better. Am not sure what to do. Any ideas ?

I figured if i start off by listing all the things i hate about alopecia, then it can only get better right? Sure i can learn to accept it but maybe i just want to go on hating it for a little while longer.
Things I hate about Alopecia
1. I cannot wear my hair in a high pony tail.
2. My hair style of choice is a low pony tail or a loose plait
3. I feel i cannot get my hair trimmed because i don't want to go to the hairdresser
4. The way it grows back…

Beautiful People,
If Madison Avenue ever created a slogan for life, that should be it. One of the things I learned through dealing with Alopecia (and having my husband suddenly drop dead of a massive heart attack), is that you can't wait until things are perfect -- or even better -- to meet life full on. If you do, you will always be waiting instead of living, and life is short. Like art, your passions are revealed in the process, not the product.
An analogy (and example)…

I thought that it was about time that I updated my regrowth blog. I'm really happy to say that the regrowth of hair on my head has been pretty impressive. I've gone from having 20+ patches to them all filling in. Some have still to thicken up a bit.
This is the patch on the back of my head near my crown.
This is the first patch which appeared a year ago. Strangely, it has been the slowest to fill in. It is still filled with…

Friends,
I just found out that the Minnesota Center for Book Arts has selected one of my pieces, "Autotomy", for their Quantified Aesthetics exhibition that will run from March 12th to June 20th. MCBA is the largest book arts center in the nation, and I couldn't feel more validated!
THANK YOU! The confidence I have gained from being a member of this online community has contributed greatly to my artistic endeavors. As always, I urge you to go out there and find something…

Hi there I was just wondering if there are any with Alopecia living here in Switzerland? I am South African and living here 1 yr already and think it would be nice to hear from you if so. Peharps we could start our own Breakfast mornings or have get togethers like the AW in the States. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

I know many of you have had this illness for a while now. Sometimes you feel like you've become an authority. Well, like many others who've spent years in their particular industry -- you've all become SMB (subject matter experts) in your field of Alopecia. :)
You are entitled to:

Print one and hang it on your wall -- only a few people around the world have earned one. You…

Has anybody ever bought a wig from Best Wig Outlet? I found a really cute human hair piece, Sepia - HB Prom, and it was a really really good price for Human hair. I am so leary about buying online. I have one now that I got thru an area salon. It is supposed to be human hair and it was rather pricy. To put it bluntly, I hate it. I haven't had it a year yet even and have only been able to wear it in a ponytail. It is supposed to be human hair, but it seems to "rat up" in the back just like some…

Hi Everyone!!
I have thought long and hard about updating on Alopecia World - I didn't want to upset anyone with my good news...but then thought...HEY...If this could give even one person a bit of hope...it's very much worth it!!
The good news is that I have 100% complete regrowth. I shaved my head on January 24th 2009, and by October 2009, the last patch had grown over.
One year later, I am patch free and just waiting for my hair to grow long again. I still…

I feel like this community has taken a huge weight off my shoulders. For so long, I felt like I was the only one dealing with this. I'd seen women losing their hair on hair transplant tv commercials, but never really gotten to talk to anyone dealing with the condition. It's such a releif to talk to people who understand and can let me know what to expect down the road. It also really helps to see women on here who have everything I want-husbands, children, and successful careers, and didn't let…

Welp... after almost 6 years I finally did it!!!! I started back to school today after graduating from HS in 2004. The past few years going back to school has been so scary for me for some reason... I even started the financial aid process and got accepted into like 3 or 4 different schools and never followed through!! I had once again planned on going back way before this November when my alopecia started and was of course falling back into my same routine of doubt. I was so scared and nervous…

Okay, my hairloss was about 80-90% due to my Lupus. I have now been on Plaquinel since Nov 23 and a Biotin/Fish Oil regimen since Nov 1. The first picture shows the peak of my loss before I noticed that I didn't seem to be losing and the second picture is today. Just Friday I thought I saw 1/2" hairs among the 2-3" hairs. My mother looked and sure enough she saw a lot. So I got the rest of my hair shorn to 1" to even it out. I tried to duplicate the exact lighting so it shows the same but you…

What sort of treatment are you guys finding effective. What levels are your
Medical Insurance providers covering your treatments? I have seen some
International Medical Insurance that cover at 100%. I think it would be great for everyone to post what they are trying and what sort of success they are having. Any tips or advice welcome.

My hair's growing back. I can finally get off the cortisone treatment. As for the acne side effect from the medicine, I get to start another medicine. Yippee! Be strong, have hope. =D

Here goes my RANT! please take it for what its worth, no more no less, I am a repair technician, I fix things for a living, therefore find it difficult to except my medical Doctors disheartening prognosises concerning the very obvious autoimune desease alopecia totalis that I have been plagued with as incurable due to lack of knowledge on there part. Basically all four docs said in not so many words you got and autoimmune desease we no nothing about, good luck with that, see ya would not want…
