Today on FB I received a message from a friend who has terminal cancer and said "it's hard to be without hair" and she doesn't see how I handled it all this time. She is the most amazing person. I remember when she was diagnosed and was worried about losing her hair, I told her not to worry I would come to work bald with her. There is nothing the doctors can do for her now but she is still here and living life. And you know what, that's what we should all be doing as well.

I have a scar on my forehead about 2/3" in length. I got it when I was four years old, from jumping on my grandmother's sofa and falling headfirst onto her ancient radiator. My mother had heard that they don't use anesthetic in the ER when they stitch you up, so trying to save me from further pain, she cleaned and bandaged my wound herself. The scar is actually an oval depression on the surface of my skin, probably not something you'd notice right away upon meeting me. Through the years I've…

Hi there fellow bloggers :)
Just thought I would type and tell you of my little happy story for the weekend.
So there I am, stepping off the tram in Nottingham City Centre, Old market square, with my Mum and my Oma. when a man ran up to me and touched my shoulder. for a moment I thought he was going to tell me that I had been a right numpty and left something on the tram, but actually, he said:
" Hi, sorry, you don't know me, but I just wanted to say, that you are really… Continue

I work with a guy that has alopecia but we have never talked about it. I don't even know if he knows that I have alopecia. There are not to many people at work that do know, since I have been wearing a wig at work. Well, the other day I walked into a conversation by a couple of female co-workers and they were talking about my fellow alopecian brother at work. The conversation went something like this. " It started with a small bald spot on the top of his head. His wife said he should go to the…

Alopecia World:
Hey kids. I apologize for my absence. It's late, and I'm tired but I wanted to write a quick update. Apologies for the disarray that is this blog entry.
I'll work backwards.
Vanessa thinks my hair is growing back. I can't see anything, but I believe her. She says there is some hair actually coming in some spots, while other areas are rockin' this like, light peach-fuzz. Since buzzing my head, we've had to re-buzz once. Vanessa and I went to Los…

Day 5 of collecting hair and today's pile is biggest of all. I uploaded a profile photo, and you can't *really* tell how much hair I've lost thanks to the damaging power of hair bleach. I think my hair looks scraggly as I don't dare to style or even brush it all that much- just let it air dry as it is. But at this point I'll take scraggly hair or my natural dark or my abused blonde or whatever I'm allowed to keep.... just please don't take any more away.
Irony, 3 months ago I bought…

Well, it was bound to happen to me, and today was the day.
Cheryl and I went for a walk and stopped at a local restaurant to order water.
While I was paying, Cheryl stepped away to get a couple of straws just as an older woman tried to touch her and say, "God bless your heart."
Realizing that I saw her, the woman smiled at me and asked without pause, "Does she shave her head, or does she have cancer?"
I immediately responded, "Neither. She has alopecia areata, a…

Hi y'all... I have had so many labs done and scalp checks and everything looks good and normal. I was wondering how you were diagnosed with alopecia, female pattern baldness, etc.. Does it show up on any tests? Should I be getting a certain test done for an actual diagnosis? So confused about what steps to take! Thanks for any advice! My scalp is itchy, burning and feels like hairs are being pulled. It's super sensitive and can hurt in the wind, sun, water, etc.. It can also be tender to the…

I just recently went to the doctors where he informed me that there was no medical treatment for androgentic alopecia. You can imagine how upset I was. He had basically just told me there was no hope. The hair that was gone will never come back. He also said that people with androgentic alopecia don't usually lose all there hair. It just thins out tell a point, then stops. Another thing he told me was that there is a link between polycystic ovary syndrome and alopecia. Pcos is caused by hormone…

Well, looks like my shedding isn't going to stop anytime soon. For four days I've saved the hair from my morning brushing and lined up the piles of hair on a shelf. Day 2 (since I started saving) so far has been the worst, and the other days more or less the same. I feel like I've gone through so much in the last few days. I'm emotionally tired. But I write this blog for the sake of documentation.
I wear the same hairstyle now, 24-7. A low ponytail at the base of my head which is…

This is my post on heralopecia.com:
Hi, I'm writing this in hopes someone can give me some insight.
At first, it was almost funny in March when I got a pea-sized patch of thin hair along my part. I could see the skin underneath was peach-colored, about 1-2 shades darker than my normal skin tone, and I joked about having a tan on my white scalp. From March until now my hair thinned out on top a little, but I still didn't worry, just attributed it to hair breakage from…

Hey, I have never blogged on here before, but I feel that it is FOR SURE time. :) I am trying to accept this whole "bald" thing, but it is SOOO hard. I always had BEAUTIFUL hair and out of NOWHERE, I started losing it and two years later, I am fixing to have to get a wig. (so hard). During this time I have gotten divorced. I only really stayed in it because of my insecurities, but have found an AMAZING boyfriend that goes wig shopping with me and lets me cry on his shoulder. I am so lucky, but…

I've noticed that for the last three years, my daughter loses the most hair in August - Sept - Oct. Just wondering if there is any connection there... it just seems odd.
Thanks in advance for your insight!

Wow - This was hard and at the same time soothing. IT made me re-think of where I was and how I got to where I am now. ( yes- even made me re-think the bad times too)
My dates may still be fuzzy for I went thru several depressed states and try not to remember some things....
Bear with me --
Thought I would post it here as well as putting it with the VERY extensive paperwork for the MD. Anderson Research…

My best friend's sister is a Manager of a hair salon. I went there the other day so that she could trim the bangs on a new wig that I ordered online. Thank goodness it was empty that day. It got me thinking how I miss going to a hair salon. I didn't go that often when I had hair, but when I did go, it was a treat. First, where I went, they gave you a mimosa or a glass of wine... what girl wouldn't like that. Lol. I loved when they would wash your hair and give you a little scalp massage. It…
