Breast implants and hairloss

I was wondering if anyone here developed alopecia after they got breast implants? I have had what my doctors says is alopecia working on three years now. I noticed that my hair loss started about 3 to 4 months after I got my breast implants. Then it stopped. It started back about 5 months after that then stopped again. This continued for about a year then it started to fall out more then not. I have read some things saying that breast implants can sometimes cause hairloss. Does anyone else… Continue

Lost my hair after taking fertility drugs (Clomid & Femara)

I took Clomid & Femara as fertility drugs. 1 month on Clomid, I lost an inch by inch suare of hair. Doc said NOT in any way in relation to the Clomid...but switched me to Femara. I took that for 3 months. By the 3rd month almost all of my hair was gone...my doc STILL stated that it was nothing to do with Clomid or Femara...and that I must be having other medical issues. No pregnancy even happened...

After seeing a dermatologist....she told me the Clomid has a 1% chance and the… Continue

Well, I finally lost it

I beat my stove up with a large box of aluminum foil. My bathroom is a mess because I threw my false eyelashes, my eyebrow tatoos, adhesive and everything else I use to put on my freaky face in the morning just so I look halfway normal. I have been waiting for my package of eyelashes, top and bottoms, to arrive in the mail, they finally came yesterday, yeah! So I paste on my eyebrows last night to save me some time in the morning, since they are to last for days! Yeah, right! Woke up and had… Continue

Just wanted to say thank you to all my fellow Alopecians!

Hi all, I hope you are all doing well...I just wanted to write a blog to tell all my fellow Alopecians that I thank you so very much for all of your support, I deeply appreciate it...On the night of Sep 13th I was in hysterics not knowing what to do or what was happening when I found a bald spot on my head, but searching the web in hopes to find others to support and gain some support back has been a god send..I intially could not hold back my tears in fear of losing my hair and wanting to run… Continue

Paranoia - hairlessness and finding employment

This economy and trying to find a job has me in the dumps! I've had a fair share of interviews, no takers, and although I know I am my worst enemy and that it's all in my head I keep reverting to what I strive to keep at bay normally. POSITIVITY! Of course I can't read minds either but I keep feeling that I'm being rejected for my appearance and not my skills - I'm a jack of all trades, master of none. I've been a welder, tour guide, retail manager, shipper/receiver, inventory control, machine… Continue

It's Marissa's blog time just because!

So on Sept. 14 we had my daughters first dermatologist appointment and the derm told me it looks like she has all the signs of alopecia. Then she asked me how I felt about hearing that and I told her that I pretty much have been preparing myself to hear those words. I told her that I was actually glad it wasn't something worse. She told me my daughter looks healthy and that most likely if I have a family member that had it or if I have a family member with thyroid its more likely to occur. So… Continue

Some regrowth, I think?

After my last set of steriod injections , about two and a half weeks ago , I have noticed more hair starting to grow on my spot . I don't want to get my hopes up or anything so I'm just taking this day by day strand by strand . The new hair seems to be baby fine and has a few white ones . I did have a few white ones there before so I don't know if it was from before or new ones . Does anyone know if this new hair will thicken out eventually ? And does it fall out easier then normal healthy hair… Continue

The AHA! Moment

Most of us can pinpoint The Moment when something big happened (Elvis died, Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, Challenger exploded, Kennedy was shot, Princess Diana died, Michael Jackson died, Twin Towers...).

What about the moment you realized you would stay bald forever (or thought you would), and said to the heavens, "Well. Okay, then," and just did what you had to do, from then on, as a person with hair loss...no more prayers, tears, bargaining, shots, etc.? When was that,… Continue

Northumbria University, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK!

Hey all!

Thought I would keep you all updated! I moved into University halls last friday!! Loving it so far! I couldn't have asked for better house mates, really they are so so lovely! A house of 6 students, 3 girls and 3 lads. All studying different subjects, but we get on so well! We have a real nice family vibe, taking it in turn to cook for everyone each day, and the lads are so protective of us 3 girls when we go out!

And NO ONE cares about the 'bald issue'. I have had a… Continue

I'm now on more medication for my lupus and will be weaning off the steroids, i guess when i'm off them my hair might fall out again. or when my hormones go back to normal my hair could fall out. or it might not.

i don't want to hope to… Continue

Anxiety, fear and my pledge to myself

Warning: This is a total anxiety-fueled vent session, written in the hope the act of writing about my anxiety and fear will lessen it. We'll see.

Here I am again, bargaining and wondering what my problem is.

If God, the Universe, All That Is, or Who/Whatever would allow me to get away with NOT having MS, cancer, some neurological condition or any number of equally devastating diagnoses, I will be grateful if it's "just" (and I use that word cautiously, because we all know hair… Continue

Being bald is not a reason not to date

So the guy I told that I have alopecia. 2 ½ weeks ago I called our relationship off for good reasons. I found out that because a guy accepts you with alopecia doesn’t mean it will be a match made in heaven, it only made me realize that a lot of other guys will be just accepting.

First he never called/text after working hours. And he was always too busy. Too busy to call/text/be together, sounds like maybe a wife @home. I said what am I doing dating you? So after trying to explain… Continue

So NOW you want to grow back

So yesterday I went to re-apply some eyeliner and noticed hair growing over my new tattooed eyebrows, I have like 4 eyebrow hairs going in, and they are thick dark brown like the rest! I cheered (silently of course, I was at work) and was so excited I e-mailed my mom "MY CATERPILLERS ARE GROWING BACK!!" Definitely cool to see the hairs coming back in. Luckily though if those hairs decide to fall back out, theres a lovely tattoo underneath it. But That kind of made my day yesterday!!

Lord, just some eyebrows...please!

Please forgive me - but I need to vent. I find myself lately begging and pleading with God to give my son some of his dark eyebrows and eyelashes back. That's all he wants - forget all the rest of the hair. He's 14 - just started high school, and lost basically all his hair 9 months ago. He is such a handsome guy - but he just doesn't see it. And the loss of his eyebrows (the little hair he does have is white) is such a downer for him. Tonight he was really in a foul mood - but wouldn't share… Continue

Getting use to the new me is a journey too

I want to start by saying that I dont regret shaving my head. I do believe it was necessary as part of my healing. But today I find myself wavering in my self-image. Wondering if I can ever let myself truly be. I spend so many years hiding and not letting people close. Especially men. I know that there is always going to be good days and bad for everyone not just for us that live with alopecia. And I know that our "battle" sometimes makes it that much more tougher. Im not looking for sympathy… Continue

'Why do you shave your head?'

I started to post this as a response to the question “Why do you shave your head?,” which Pam Fitros asked this Alopecia World group. I posted this blog instead because I wanted to share my answer with the entire community.

Back in 2010 I saw an advertisement for “It’s All Good Hair,” a “natural hair” workshop and celebration sponsored by the Shrine…

Feeling overwhelmed!

I feel so stressed out seeing my little girl going through so much and not being able to make it go away it hurts so much! I need parents who are going through the same thing to give me advice and assistance!

The wind

Many people will tell you how the wind in your hair feeling is great. But for someone like me who has alopecia areata, I see the it differently. Since I have bald spots on my head its generally not very noticeable but when the wind blows then it reveals. I used to always wear a hat whenever I go outside but now I'm not as self conscious. If its very windy outside then I would wear a hat.
