I just recently went to the doctors where he informed me that there was no medical treatment for androgentic alopecia. You can imagine how upset I was. He had basically just told me there was no hope. The hair that was gone will never come back. He also said that people with androgentic alopecia don't usually lose all there hair. It just thins out tell a point, then stops. Another thing he told me was that there is a link between polycystic ovary syndrome and alopecia. Pcos is caused by hormone…

Well, looks like my shedding isn't going to stop anytime soon. For four days I've saved the hair from my morning brushing and lined up the piles of hair on a shelf. Day 2 (since I started saving) so far has been the worst, and the other days more or less the same. I feel like I've gone through so much in the last few days. I'm emotionally tired. But I write this blog for the sake of documentation.
I wear the same hairstyle now, 24-7. A low ponytail at the base of my head which is…

Hey, I have never blogged on here before, but I feel that it is FOR SURE time. :) I am trying to accept this whole "bald" thing, but it is SOOO hard. I always had BEAUTIFUL hair and out of NOWHERE, I started losing it and two years later, I am fixing to have to get a wig. (so hard). During this time I have gotten divorced. I only really stayed in it because of my insecurities, but have found an AMAZING boyfriend that goes wig shopping with me and lets me cry on his shoulder. I am so lucky, but…

I've noticed that for the last three years, my daughter loses the most hair in August - Sept - Oct. Just wondering if there is any connection there... it just seems odd.
Thanks in advance for your insight!

My best friend's sister is a Manager of a hair salon. I went there the other day so that she could trim the bangs on a new wig that I ordered online. Thank goodness it was empty that day. It got me thinking how I miss going to a hair salon. I didn't go that often when I had hair, but when I did go, it was a treat. First, where I went, they gave you a mimosa or a glass of wine... what girl wouldn't like that. Lol. I loved when they would wash your hair and give you a little scalp massage. It…

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you…

Oh, the comfort!
The inexpressible comfort
Of feeling safe with a person,
Having neither to weigh thoughts
Nor measure words,
But pouring them all right out,
Chaff and grain together;
Certain that a faithful hand
Will take and sift them,
Keep what is worth keeping,
And with the breath of kindness,
Blow the rest away.

I am shopping for a new wig. I tried the full lace as my first and have really enjoyed the very natural look of it. Most people can't even tell. I have no problem with telling anyone that it is a wig. They are so popular here in Atlanta that it's not surprising to see people wearing them in the Black Community.
I'm thinking about getting bangs since it will be easier to hide the hairline where it's easier to tell. Anyone have suggestions?

So i wear a wig to work.
But when im walking home ill take it off my head.
How surprised someone would be to see someone taking off their hair.
Consider them lucky for experiencing that.
Im looking for alternative for my head, wigs are fine but soooo iritating.
Im heading up to a cottage, what to wear? wraps make me look sickly...
suggestions?

This week Jennifer Gilbert wrote on Twitter, "My son is diagnosed with alopecia. A strange AI that causes his hair to fall out. We are devestated. Anyone know anything about it?"
I don't know her son's age or the type of alopecia he's experiencing, but I'm calling on the entire Alopecia World family to reach out to her.
Please let her know that you heard the news on AlopeciaWorld.com and that our beloved community…

There have been waaay too many problems at my school with my wig. I've dealt with it for so long, and I'm caught between just telling my school about AU or continuing letting them point and whisper. I'm just...scared of the little monsters and what will come of me telling them. Should I?? I have asked several people, and the answer is almost always the same. "Just do whatever feels right for you." Here's the problem: Nothing feels right for me. If I tell my school, it could go 2 ways. I could…

Yesterday I met and spoke to two women.
The first was a bald black woman in the library and when I asked if she had alopecia she responded that, no, she just liked the look. Thirteen years ago she shaved her head and continued to do so to this day. We spoke for a bit and exchanged shaving tips and our thoughts on living our lives as bald women.
Later on that even while grocery shopping a lady made eye contact with me and then asked if I have cancer. I told her about my…

Anyone had any one of these incidents?? I am younger than my years, or was until my hair started falling out. That was 4/08. Maybe it was because I used to go to a club on Saturday nights..my baby fine hair did nothing, so I would always wear a cool blonde wig...it made me feel better about myself..until...maybe it was the alcohol too but women would "look" at me and I would see that they were talking about me, and then their friends would "look"..it made me feel self conscious. The time when…

I am single and really enjoy being single! However, I haven't figured out how to navigate dating and wearing wigs. I am a member of a local dating website and I had an interesting experience a few weeks ago. I met a guy on there and we started chatting. The pictures were down on the website so we emailed each other more pictures. I accidentally sent him one of me wearing a scarf. He asked if I had cancer. I said no, and told him about my situation. He said it was no big deal. I never heard from…

I shared the post below at the beginning of the year on the UK Alopecia site. Was reading it again a few minutes ago. Wow, what a year it has been. 2010 has certainly been the year i finally made peace with living with Alopecia. I voluntarily left full time paid employment at the end of last year and decided i wanted to spend this year on a journey of self-inquiry, integration and rediscovery. What a journey, what a ride! I have finally learnt to love and accept myself unconditionally and…

I changed my wig sunday. I usually change it on Sundays because I like to get feedback at church (or no feedback). I brought a bob hair style and it was long. I wore it to church I got comments like you look like your mother to just stares. SO I went home did a little cutting and it came out great. I went to work the next day and the response I got from women were “Did you do something different to your makeup, it looks great but different?” (did not change my makeup). The comments I got from…
