I will never forget it...I went into the salon to see how much it would cost, the lady told me $12.00. I said you have got to be kidding I have only half a head of hair. The lady looked at me like I had ten heads. I lifted up my hair and she then saw that underneath was all gone. The lady at the salon charged me $6.00 that day to have my head shaved. I have been bald ever since.

Having a relationship with alopecia is no different from having relationship with hair.
We find someone who accepts our lack of hair, but everything else remains. We still have to battle through the process of merging 2 personalities, and me and rj are no different.
We have our good days, our bad days and the days that our relationship is just a struggle. It's all part of the package of loving and growing with someone.
I am not perfect and neither is…

The greatest gift that you can give or receive is the gift of love and acceptance.
To be admired and appreciated for who you are, to know that you are treasured and cherished simply because of the person you are, to have the assurance that those nearest and dearest to you genuinely understand what truly makes you beautiful and special, is not only the most wonderful feeling in the world, but also the most amazing thing that could happen to anyone.
That’s why Alopecia…

After reading what some of ya'll had said about your experinces with the first time you shaved your head, I decided to do it. On this past Friday after work I had an appoinment with one of my wig stylists to put my hair up in an up-do for a party I was going to. I took my best friend Brittany who was in town from Ohio with me. We were sitting around laughing & enjoying a martini while Cheryl & Angela were styling my wig. I looked over and say the razor sitting on Cheryl's counter. She…

I have had a few people ask me about my eyelashes....I am never embarassed to say they are not mine own....and always willing to give other advice on how to wear them! Let me know if you have additional questions but here is how I do it:
I use a product called fashion lashes from Ardell….I use the demi 120 they are full and dark but not to costumey. I would recommend starting to use the lashes (if possible) when you still have a few lashes so that you get the hang of where to put…

Hi Everyone!
I have had many people ask how my tattoo procedure went so I just wanted to post a quick blog to let everyone know how it went! My tattoo experience was great!!!! Jeffery Segal, who did the tattoos was absolutely wonderful! He is so talented! There was very little pain involved because he uses Novocain to numb the area. I had both my eyebrows and lash line done. With the eyebrows there was no swelling or pain at all and the eyes were not swollen just a little puffy the…

So, I’ve been thinking for some time. I’ve had AU for just about 5 years now and I’m a sophomore in college. For now, I wear a bandana practically everywhere I go. When I’m at home or in my apartment (at school), I will go around bald because it is more comfortable and I know my family/roommates don’t mind. For a while, when people would come over, the first thing I would think would be to cover up. I’ve slowly come out of that, and will let them see me without anything covering my head. (But…

OK, I just found another good reason to have AU. I had a little "tuck" done on my face and my doctor said that he wished that everyone had alopecia! He didn't have to try and hide stitches in my non-existent hair line!!

Hello my bald brothers and sisters!
I have asked one of my MySpace friends if I could copy his post here. Bryan Eden is part of "Tribe of Eden" a group of hardrockers bringing a positive message to the world through their music. He shared this story in a recent bulletin and I wanted to share it all with you! I am certain, that as Bryan proved...with love...anything is possible! Enjoy and please visit his sites that I listed at the bottom. I thought this was an incredbily powerful testiment…

when i was a teenager, each time i woke up and got ready in the mirror, i had less and less hair. my first solution was to close the shades on the window behind the mirror so that you could not see the light through my hair. but then that didnt work for long. then i started hanging a black towel behind my head as i got ready in the mirror, and the darkness of the towel tricked my eye into thinking my thin dark hair was full. that wasnt enough after a while either. i discovered the miracle of…

As much as writing is a healing process for me, and as much as writing makes me feel better, I find myself becoming victim more and more to that dreaded curse of the writer -- writer's block!!! Perhaps it is because I have so many thoughts running in my head that I hardly know where to start writing them down. I know sometimes I have a story laid out in my head, but by the time I can get to pen and paper or a keyboard to start writing it, I've forgotten what it was that captured my attention,…

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I'll dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh..When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When the darkness comes
And…

I just want to share an experience I had when attending a luncheon 6 months ago...I got a chance to meet 9 other beautiful women who shared the same condition I have...Alopecia.
Finally I got a chance to see someone of my likeness, some women came to the function without wigs and others had wigs on, but we still shared our stories and felt a sisterhood in our likeness.
I left that luncheon with the understanding of knowing:
We do have options and choices of what we…
