soon as i instigate a movement, she turns to give me space--

How does she,a normal woman get the strength to get through this,

Ah, this emotional roller coaster! I have a question!

Hi all, I hope you are doing well..So I wanna give an uptake on my progress of my hair..My hair seems to be growing in in the spots that were bald and coalaced into one big spot due to the injections..Now it seems that since my hair is growing back I am getting new spots in the same area, but different spots..It also seems as though I have diffuse Alopecia on top of this AA..I am losing an enormous amount of hair and I am not sure where I am losing it from..Whether it be from the two bald spots… Continue

A stranger looking back at me in the mirror

So it has been about a month since I got my wig(my first one). I feel much more confident, but at times it feels like there is a stranger looking back at me in the mirror or in pictures. I used to take pictures of myself in the morning (every morning) and send it to my bestie, but I just don't like the pictures cuz it doesn't really look like me.

I am not questioning my decision at all, but just wondering if anyone else had this feeling in the beginning?

I know it has to… Continue

Shampoo, conditioner, and techniques

Hey guys,

Well when I bought my wig, I asked the guy how to care for and clean them and he wouldn't tell me. He just told me to bring it back to him and pay $30 every time I need it washed....Well that's not going to happen because that's a lot of money that will add up, and he is about an hours and a half from me....So I am having to google my way around figuring how to keep this thing nice.

So any advice you guys have I would GREATLY appreciate it =)

Best brands and types of… Continue

Coming out bald!

I had my "coming out" for lack of a better term last night. One week ago yesterday I had what was left of my hair buzzed off. Alopecia claimed most of the hair on my head.

I am a singer/songwriter. I had a gig yesterday at Philadelphia's premiere listening room, The Tin Angel. I opened for Vance Gilbert. I've played the Tin many, many times, but never without hair. While I've been walking around bald for one week, this was the first time a large amount of people who both were fans… Continue

Dunno!

I dunno, I really don't. I'm a little confused right now as to what my body is trying to do. I have had AT for almost a year and a half. (gees its gone quickly now that I think about it). Had my ups and downs for about 1 year. I must say I have been extremely good for about 4 months now. Changes?? From having no body hair at all head to toe, I am seeing it re-appear. My under arm hair, from none, to white, to dark & having to shave again. White and dark leg & arm hairs appearing in… Continue

Ugh

I am soo tired of people complimenting my hair and then when i say "thanks" they follow it up with "its so shiny hard to believe that's not a wig" SERIOUSLY!?! I mean even if you suspected it was a wig why would you say that or ever ask a stranger a question like that? to me it just seems rude. I am tired of my "hair" being shiny. I am tired of not feeling like i am normal. I dont feel I should have to tell people, its not really anyones business. I had a situation last weekend where my… Continue

Tell me your story

I was thinking about everything and wondering when it is that everyone noticed their first patch. Did it appear after a traumatic or stressful event? Was it completely out of the blue? Tell me your story.

Afraid

Why am I sooo afraid to tell people that I have known for pretty much my whole life, people that I used to school with

Family, cousins, friends... the list goes on.

I HAVE ALOPECIA, yep, that means I am bald, I have no hair, head to toe, yep BALD.

Yet, people I am meeting now, I have no issues with telling them. That once I do tell them, I feel a whole lot of relief.

A relief that i think, hmmm are these people staring at me, can they tell I'm wearing a wig?

Shittt, I… Continue

Does my 6 year old have it too?

I was diagnosed with AA in May of 09. I received injections and my hair has partially grown back. I can cover pretty well and don't wear the scarves anymore. My Grandmother had Universalis but not until her 70's. Last night I noticed a bald spot on my 6 year-old son's head. It's only about the size of a dime. I called my dermatologist. Am I over reacting?

Mini-Mes

You know the scene in the movies where the mini mes sit on your shoulders speaking in your ears????

Lately I have found that is what Im experiencing.

Its like one moment Im loving my bald look, I have a nice shaped head, and I like the smoothness. Shaving was the far better option as oppose to living like I was.

But in the very next breath, I get all sad.....I really have no hair. I will run my hands over my head and there is nothing. There really is nothing. Maybe for a little… Continue

The Good Life

Has anyone seen The Good Life? The main character has alopecia and I liked how the writers and the director portrayed it. It was an issue that the character dealt with but it didnt define his whole life or take over the main message of the movie. It said just enough. At least I think so.

Does anyone else have this?

I'm new to this site but sadly not new to the hair loss. I have so many people telling me I have alopecia and then others saying I don't.. I don't know what to think anymore.

The first time I lost my hair, it grew back like weeds within 3 months. The second time I lost my hair was 11 months after the first time I lost it, and this time around I'm losing my eyebrows and eyelashes too. I don't know if I should be hopeful that it will magically grow back again in a month or to believe… Continue

Curly regrowth?

My areas of regrowth are growing in CURLY! The rest of my hair is mostly straight, but the regrowth is quite curly. My dermatologist said that she has no medical explanation for this, but she has seen this before--sometimes regrowth is curly and sometimes stick straight. Anyone else have this?

Getting more comfortable

Well my friend Liselle called me out about not bein on AW lately, so I decided to post a blog. Thanks Liselle for reminding me to blog!

I am getting more and more comfortable with my wig, I am actually getting more comfortable with my buzzed hair too. I actually have showed it to my bestie's kids and husband in KY. I skype with her since we are 6 hours away. They all said that I look good, but of course they aren't seeing the top of my head, but atleast they make me feel comfortable… Continue

To shave or to not shave

I'm so frustrated. I look ridiculous with a giant bald spot on the back of my head, but I will look ridiculous bald. I've just got to take the plunge and shave it all off. I'm thinking about investing in a hat... I'm 22 and have never worn a hat before. My wife keeps telling me that she loves me no matter what, but I feel guilty that she has to go through this with me. How long until the depression lets up?

Done...bald...transitioned...spot-less...liberated!

I will forever remember Saturday, March 5, 2011, the day I buzzed off what appeared to look like a light, scattered bird's nest on my head. It was amazing. I returned to my hometown, NYC, to my hairdresser of 19 years, Skipper Edwards. I initially went to Skipper because he was my sister's hairdresser; he was good with hair of women of color. Being bi-racial my hair was kinky, although it could be blown out. He proceeded, throughout the years to cut, style my hair in an appropriate way to hide… Continue

The horrors of getting a hair cut when you're so close to bald

So, I still have enough hair that I'm not wearing a wig or topper as of yet. But, trust me that my scalp is VERY easy to see at the right angle in the right light. I hold my hair up and I can see my entire scalp from the front to the back of my head. Strangely enough I'm beginning to accept it.

I knew I had to get a haircut- I had split ends and it was looking shaggy. I took 3 of my anxiety pills and went into the salon. I had a hat on, and before I took the hat off, I told her that… Continue
