As a non-alopecian, I'm curious: If people would like to compliment your "look," how would you like them to do so? I mean, if it's specifically your "hairstyle" or lack thereof that they like, what's the best for them to tell you this without offending or upsetting you?

I had to go to the hospital the other day, as it turns out, I have H1N1, getting through it and almost back to 100%. But something that happened while I was there really got to me. The nurse asked me if my bald head was, `Just a fashion statement`. That really bothered me. I didn`t say anything at the time but, I think I should have. I do shave my head, mainly because I had so many patches that it was almost all gone, but certainly not because I am some fashionista. I didn`t shave my head to be…

I dont know why but this whole blog thing intimidates me. It is as if, if I blog then everyone will know this dark secret I keep. Maybe this is the road to dealing with my AA(which has been a long one). I fortunately have been able to hide my spots for 4 years and coming up to my half year it is starting to show, and I mean everywhere. Any angle I take a peak in the back and can see a spot smiling at me. Even in the front it is as if I have this receding hairline that people pretend not to…

Sounds like a bad comedian's joke - "Two Alopecians walk into a bar...." But, for the first time, I actually found myself in public place with an Alopecian I didn't know.
We first saw each other in the Lab part of the hospital (I was in for a blood test). I thought he might have Alopecia. He was about my age, very fit looking, and very bald with an all-over-his-head tan. If he had eyebrows, they weren't very dark. I was, as usual, sitting there bald. Neither one of us said…

Hi Ya'll!
Just wanted to share this story, I put on a wig and when my husband got home, he told me that it looks like a helmet. I was upset at first but then he said no like a helmet that is hair! I couldn't help but laugh but then I took it off thinking is that what people are thinking when they see me? That I look like a helmet head??!! Anyone else have and experience like this one??? Now I don't know if I will ever wear it again!! Don't know if I should laugh or…

So on Tuesday, my aunt gave me a few wigs she had on hand and I ordered 2 more...one that will like like my real hair and one that is totally not, lol! I'm not ready to invest in an expensive wig until I know the nature of this, though at this rate it will be gone by Christmas. Yesterday, I spent most of the day with my mom getting her glasses and whatnot, and I wore this all day with fairly good results. Here are a before and after shot.

Remember 39 years of Grief & Sadness, as we all know.
I too would hide after all my long hair fell out at 14 years of age.
I would wear scarves, synthetic wigs & cry about the discomfort.
The itch, heat & the pain.
Feeling Anger, Hurt & Sadness.
Because perception & insult didn't allow me to be myself.
I would hide....hide & fear being seen.
Fear ridicule, fear judgment &… Continue

I found this article online. Though it doesn't have anything to do with alopecia I found it to be a very informative and good read.

Just as you start to get used to your current form of alopecia it changes.
I have had nearly twelve months now with AU. Not a hair anywhere other than the fact that I still have to shave my chin now and then. Even then the hair on my chin is now much finer than it used to be. I’ve had no eyebrows, no eyelashes not anything.
The last couple of weeks though I’ve noticed that I’ve got a few eyelashes come back and the front section of my head has started to have hairs grow…

I barely ever get on here, mainly becuase I forgot I even had an account until I got an email from them. So I guess I will talk about what's going on with me currently. With alopecia, I have not had any hair growth in more than 5 years. I am actually used to it and just wear a wig full time. It's kind of like a security blanket for me and I barely ever take it off, which is totally fine with me because I don't feel a need to not wear it. I haven't had eyelashes or eyebrows in a couple of years,…

To those that actually keep up on my sporatic blogs and more specifically those who were interested in the discrmination lawsuit against my old workplace, I finally got a response!! After a two week delay, I finally have it and these people haven't the slightest clue! They mentioned things that I had apparently said but didn't, things I had done but had permission to do and here's the biggest kick in the pants: I wasn't given my promotion because they hired someone else out of prejudice…

Hey Ya'll!! I'm just wondering, is there anything know to you that would help stop or slow down the shedding?!! I can't stand it anymore! I think you AT and AU people are almost better off because you don't have to deal with it!! I cant stand it and it's driving me crazy!! Is the only thing that I can do is shave my head?! I'm just not there yet!! My doctor told me that after I got the steroid shots, it should slow down, but it has not!! I'm so worn out by this, and knowing that I will have to…
