When did you decide to shave it all off???

I recently moved out to Southern California from South Florida. I left my friends, family...comfort zone in the midst of a massive episode of AA. My husband took a job transfer out here. It's gotten exceptionally worse since I've arrived. I've been trying to obtain employment in a very bad economy and really feel that my self-esteem (or lack there of) has played a big role in not finding work.

My question is, at what point did you decide to shave it off and get a wig? Did you find it… Continue

UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS

After AU, i never thought of dating anymore. To me, my life is all about career, family and friends. But you never know what's going to happen in future... Recently, I went for vacation in Laos. I joined a tour to go kayaking and tubing at the Nam Song River. That's where i met this tough, good looking, special tour guide. We had a lot of fun together throughout the journey. Although he speaks very little English, surprisingly we both understand each other well. He made my heart thump faster… Continue

When To Tell A Man...

Hi y'all!

So here's my decision: I'm shaving my remaining hair off at the end of the summer and ordering a vacuum wig. And I'm actually really excited! YAY!

Here's the thing. When should I tell a guy that I'm wearing a wig and my head is shaved? Do I do it before we get into a relationship? On the first date? When I sense things are going somewhere between us? I'm currently flirting and kinda dating this one guy who I met relatively recently. He doesn't know about my hair… Continue

Men and Alopecia

Beautiful Ones,

This weekend while having drinks with Bass Man at Jimmy Maks in Portland, the topic of conversation rolled around to the impact of Alopecia on women. I mentioned that so many of my friends on this site had expressed concern about how men they meet will react to a woman having Alopecia and wearing wigs. He was surprised that women would fear rejection for this reason. He said that very few men would find that important enough to end a relationship or never start one.… Continue

Another statistic... Got laid off today.

So here I go again on a job search. I left a stable job that I was underpaid at to go to a fantastic job in Management... a small company but very family friendly and flexible. I was there for 2 months, had told everyone about my AA and that I wear a wig and had a supportive (for the most part) base there. The client I was hired on to take care of and be the project manager for dropped our services and therefore my team and I had to be laid off. I am so nervous for the future... there are no… Continue

"I want to keep my alopecia"

Hi everyone,

This is my first time blogging. I just want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards my daughter. I just want to retell a conversation we had earlier regarding her alopecia. Amanda is 7 and has had AA since she was 4. She is never frustrated or disappointed by it. She just knows it has been a part of her life for the past 3 yrs. Well she celebrated her birthday a few days ago and when it came down for her to make a wish before blowing out her candles she didnt wish… Continue

The Cloud of Despair

I think we all have spoken about the times when despair enters our lives... the feeling of despair is like a cloud surrounding us and blurring the vision of ourselves. The cloud that descended this time is dense and seems not wanting to lift. I am a 54 year old women who recently went AU and who seemed to cope with her hair loss. This is the big one, the loss of my eyebrows and eyelashes, has completely turned my world sideways... Why is the loss of the things that in the past gave me so much… Continue

My First Ah Natural Picture

I did it, I took a deep breath & jumped into the proverbial deep end of the pool, my husband took my first ah natural bald as a bean photo. I don't think it's too bad. I was scared but so many of you gave me the courage to go natural & I thank you so very much. Take a look it's on my photo's & let me know what you think. I also included pictures of our girls, our two Lab's Brooke & Kiki.
Who love me just the way I am as does my hubby.

New wiggies and nerves

Hello all I has some more wiggies yay. I have bought a auburn bob today, it is very thin and airy so perfect for summer. Only £20 because they only had the one on display left as well which is cool. I've had a wig from this shop before and they last well for the price and look good, its worth the drive.

I go to Germany tomorrow and am glad I have some wigs to take. I'm sort of nervous about my hair as I'm going to see my exchange family from a trip years ago and the moms a hair dresser.… Continue

What is the hair color of a bald girl?

As I consider big changes in my life – new places to live, a new job, making new friends, maybe a new man – this is the question that keeps me up at night.

It’s such a trivial thing, but I have to be prepared. It comes up. When I get a new driver’s license, I may have to check a hair color box. If I sign up for online dating, I may have to identify my hair color, so that men with preferences can find me in a search. If I meet friends of friends at a bar, I have to be able to explain… Continue

Vegas is not a place for wearing wigs!!!

Is there a perfect place to live to wear a wig???

Hate wearing wigs in this heat but man!!! Why isn't there a cure for this already??? I am sure the same can be said for aids, cancer and other things. It's almost 2010 and we are still in fossel fuel and no flying cars as I was told as a child that we'd be flying around in to work when I became an adult.

Anyways... I've vented enough. Going to look for the good things in life to be happy about.

No Estrogen

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with estrogen problems along with alopecia areata? Went to the clinic last week to have my thyroid checked along with other blood tests. Got the results today..all blood work good but found out I have NO estrogen my level was zero. Just wondering if that could be the cause of my hair falling out?

Acceptance

Today I went to the local shop that supplies wigs for cancer patients. It was a big step because I have come to accept that this is now my reality. I think the hardest part is knowing it is inevitable that I will lose the rest of my hair but wanting to hold on. I feel guilty sometimes because I hate what is happening, but I know my reality could be so much worse. I try to stay positive and remember that. I believe that repeating good statements and keeping a good attitude does become what you… Continue
