New wig! :)

Got my new wig today and excited about wearing it. I know that co workers will be like ...OK, but heck with it LOL ! There is also a guy in the office I had a romantic interest in, but if he can't deal with it and this makes me lose a chance with him oh well ! Sometimes in life we have to make the most of a situation we can. When I was in my 20's and had hair I often had a difficult time styling it and caring for it. Now that I wear wigs I don't have to worry as much about that and I can easily… Continue

Shots

Just started a round of shots in my scalp. Anyone know what to expect? We started with a small patch to see how I respond then will do full treatment if I improve. Wish me luck =)

Freckles make you smarter!

Freckles....I have lots of them! As a kid I remember the single band of freckles stretching across my nose to my cheeks. I never thought much about my freckles, in fact, I kind of liked them...they were ME!

Once I hit my teens my freckles continued to repopulate...if there was a blank canvas, a freckle was sure to appear. I thought my freckles were cool and made me different, unique, interesting.

That is until the day I read an article in one of those high fashion… Continue

A little bit of info I found

I just found out today that the National Alopecia Areta Foundation set up an Ascot Fund that provides financial assistance toward the purchase of a hairpiece to individuals who have alopecia areata and are struggling financially. I was also on this other website that seemed to have a lot of wigs and hairpieces that were very natural looking...there were some on there even for kids that I really wished was around when I was a kid.… Continue

Excited

First of all I am a black woman, which makes wig buying a little less uncomfortable than my sisters of other descent, and I found a really cool wig that can be curled and comes pre bumped. I got a short length because my sister suggested it but decided to order a longer length because that is what I am more comfortable with. It is the Sensationnel Bump Human hair wig. My hair (or lack of it LOL) does bother me sometimes and I really hate wearing a wig but at least with a wig I can style I feel… Continue

Curious about discoloration

On my scalp there are discolored areas that are much lighter than my natural skin tone. What is that about?

What a day!

Around the age of 8, I was diagnosed with alopecia universalis. About 5 years later, it came back in and ever since I've been with hair...until about 2 months ago. I'm now 31 and the hair is completely gone. I will admit I had to get re-adjusted to not having hair again, but at least I knew what to expect. My mother is my confidant through this and I don't feel comfortable with telling anyone else. But I come on here and spill my guts? Yes! I feel this is the only place where people understand… Continue

Family Jewels

As I was watching Family Jewels tonight, with Gene and Shannon going thru marriage boot camp. The counselor asked Gene does he love himself enough to forgive his father. This brought back thoughts when I was so angry at my own father that the thought of him would actually cause me to feel rage, that I could actually cause physical harm to him. I saw red.

The counselor made a significant point....If you want to live a balanced life, free of bitterness you have to learn to forgive. You… Continue

My name is Teisha, and I have alopecia

7th grade I got 10 shots in my head to see why my hair was coming out. Late September, they find out why. Alopecia areata. That's what they said I have. Alopecia areata is a hair disease that makes your hair come out & leave bald spots sometimes on your head. But that's not what I say to people when they say "why do you wear a wig?" I said "My mom put a perm in my hair when I was in 4th grade & she told me not to go swimming but I didn't listen to her & there was chlorine in the… Continue

Another illustration of why bald works for me

I performed in San Diego and Laguna Beach, California last weekend with a wonderful Bulgarian band now touring the country - "Bulgarika". Drumming is hard work, and at times I got hot - sweat running off my scalp hot - and took off my scarf. Then I'd get cooled down at times and put it back on.

From my perspective, if I had a wig on, I would just feel SO weird if I took it off and on. One moment I'd have hair, then next not! This happened to me a lot when I was trying to wear wigs… Continue

The four seasons

My hair resembles the four seasons i.e. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. It falls and grows back in a cycle. It swings with my mood. I am happy when it grows back and depress when it falls. However, I have decided not to let my hair controls my life anymore. With the right and positive attitude, everybody can be beautiful. This is what we called 'aura'. If we plant a mango seed, it will grow into a mango tree. The same goes for any kind of seed. With the positive 'aura' and inner beauty, with… Continue

Head shave tomorrow!

Finally!
Had enough! Stupid stupid hair, not worth all the stress and getting all depressed, so off with it!

Dramatic I know, but if it makes me feel better about myself.

Take care everyone :) xx

Contemplating on a Freedom Wig

Hi all -

I don't believe i have ever posted here but i wanted to now and get feedback on Freedom Wigs. I have total baldness on my scalp, 1st time, and doubt it will come back from the look of things. I have had to wear wigs off and on over the last 4 yrs. I am to the point now where thinking about wearing my wig forever makes me depressed. It's a good one but i am constantly adjusting it, ha, sort of like a bra. I want to know as much as i can about the Freedom Wigs. I usually wear… Continue

"An inspirational story of finding hope and strength while living with an incurable disease"

So my story was added to my company's newsletter this month. I received it yesterday, as with everyone else that works for the three casinos of ABS. Two here in Edmonton, one in Calgary and one in Lethbridge. I pasted the story below but added a pic of the article aswell, since the writing is small and would be hard to read.

As many of you may not…
