Hi everyone,
It is funny that now I'm waiting for the official news/words from a few potential employers...suddenly, I have so much time for my own...couple of hours of packing or helping others to pack, some jogging, sit-ups and push up...here and there, watch my favourite sitcoms "Everybody loves Raymond"...I still have plenty of time to spare.
Well, it gives me time to think of my alopecia more often, its like I feel more aware of my alopecia than before I was still a…

i am a hair stylist and i work in a hair replacement salon in houston. Most of my clients are women and all of my clients are like family. I read the blog about hair salons being callused. I never want to be that way. I came on this site because i have two children who come to me with alopecia one of them their parents seem to understand the problem and the other the mother seems to keep trying to make the girl be who she was with hair. she keeps turning down wigs because the blond hair is not…

I think lack of sleep is making me temperamental.
Definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Fell asleep around 7:00 am and woke up around 10:00 am, annoyed and just cranky. I'm 8 nights away from being free from this lovely over-night position; at least 5 consecutive nights a week. I'm not good at saying no, thus why I'm staying on the schedule as On-Call. But, that's okay. At least the On-Call option gives me a choice. So I napped for a bit tonight, couple hours.…

I remember when my bald spot seemed to just get bigger over night. I tried to fill it in with black eyeliner. Putting the eyeliner on the spot didn't seem too bad, taking it off did :-) Sometimes I still cry because I feel like I'm not normal because of the bald spot. I feel like nobody around me actually understand what I feel. My family and friends always tell me that they can't see my bald spot whenever I put my hair in a ponytail but I am always saying, "its still there". I know that they…

Hello again! Much thanks for the kind and supportive/informative comments!! I greatly appreciate them as well as making me feel welcome.
But let's get down to business...
Dermatologist appointment went well I think? I'd never been to the dermatologist before, but that's irrelevant. He initially asked an array of questions and then proceeded to take a look at my head. He went on to explain what is known about Alopecia, which sounded familiar having done some reading on my…

This is my new hair this morning. It's a synthetic top piece, whereas my one before was human hair and cost £400. his one has more shape. I'm a little concerned though as the front layers are really "choppy" and i can't straighten it as its not heat resistant - will they flatter over time? Also my boyfriend commented that it's really shiny - does this also fade?
I need to move one of the clips as at the mo it sits on my big…

so im hoping someone here has some good words of advice... i have lost about 2/3 the hair on the back of my head and about 1/3 the hair in the front and on top. i wore a wig for about 6 months & HATED it! i wear scarves on my head most of the time, but at work, my boss wont let me wear them. she is one of those "mean-girls" who gets enjoyment out of making others miserable. i need some help on how to deal with her... girls can be SO mean! im SO sick of all these spots, so now im…

Spring has brought some seeds back into my head too I guess, suddenly some blonde feathery hairs have sprouted out of my head!
Not everywhere on my head, not on the sides but it's better than nothing, right?
But not only are they making a comeback on top of my head, my sideburns might be coming back too! Now I can maybe finally grow my beard and walk around with a beard and (maybe) bald head, that's cool ;D hehe
And it doesn't stop there, no no.. I feel some stubbles on my…

Just as it's starting to grow back on the hand sized patch on the top/back of my head, I've gotten another smaller patch right in the middle of my parting. Grrrr. I'm covering it up with mane spray at the moment, but worried its getting bigger. I'm getting more limited with the styles I can have my hair, and I have to tie it up at all times otherwise it shows which isn't great.
If it gets worse I don't know what I'll do. I don't have the face to pull off short hair/bald really, my…

After 2 weeks of waiting and £130, my new hair top piece should arrive tomorrow. I'm quite excited but don't want to get my hopes up too much as I had to go on a description and image on a website and guess the colour so fingers cross it's suitable, I'd hate to have to send it back and wait all over again. My human hair one is really ratty round the ends now (I've had it since December 2009) and I'm sick of only having one style.
I can't find a big range of just top pieces (the ones…

Mothers Day is a day to reflect on our love for Mom and to recognize that nothing else contributes to our own strengths, confidence and ability to love than having been loved deeply and unconditionally by our Mothers. Mothers Day has also become a day of activism among women and families touched by cancer.
This year Mothers Day has been designated as “Women’s Health and Cancer Awareness Day”! Individuals, teams, organizations and communities everywhere are using this day to advocate…

This morning I woke up and did a Britney Spears. Yes, I cut off all my hair. I am so happy and relieved I made this decision. I've never been completely bald before, and so far, it's not so bad. I want to thank the Alopecia World community for being so inspirational. I also want to thank the community at HerAlopecia.com and my family :)

I never know if people read these, nor am I ever sure how to begin but the sake of my own sanity I'm writing. Here we go...
Why am I here?
A few months ago I noticed a small bald spot forming and chalked it up to pulling hair back too tightly. In hindsight that really is a moronic excuse, but at that time I had no idea Alopecia existed nor did I think I was losing hair. Well, needless to say that wasn't accurate. I had two friends visit in March, and I was still able to…

Just in case you missed it on the news, the city of Nashville, TN was devastated by the flooding of the Cumberland River this past weekend. While my family and I were fortunate to have remained dry and safe, there are countless people here who have had their lives and livelihoods destroyed by the waters. Just to put it in the proper perspective, the Cumberland River -- as it flows through Nashville -- is considered to be at flood stage at 40 ft. As of yesterday, the river crested at 52 feet and…

Hello My fellow Smooth Friends :)
I enjoy reading all of your post and checking out the great pictures. I thought I would share what happened to me today. I am a full time graduate student studying to become a Nurse Anesthestist. I needed to get an MMR before I could start a new clinical site and the Health Department was just the most convient option (Glad I vote for the levy :). A mother and her daughter (age 5-6) came in an sat next to me. I could tell they were checking me out…

In April 2009, Alopecia World member Mary Marshall proposed the idea of a National Bald Out day.
Mary's idea quickly evolved into an international celebration three months later to raise public awareness of alopecia and express our pride in our bald heads.
However, due to a "National Bald Out" trademark claim filed by another member of Alopecia World (see www.uspto.gov for details), the popular National Bald Out discussion group on Alopecia…

Signe is 11 and on her third, and most aggressive AA loss. The first two times she was young enough that it didn't really affect her, it was much easier to cover and we just rolled with it. However, "rolling with it" has become much more difficult because of advancing age and meaner kids. It doesn't help that Signe suffers anxiety and is a perfectionist.
A few weeks ago, after months of "creative hairstyling", adjusting to hats in school and finally, a wig, Signe said she was ready…
